Free windows 10 upgrade?

I'm still seeing ads using Edge. That's really the only reason why I'm still using Chrome.
I haven't used it heavily but I mean they're off to a great start at the least.
Dee,

The majority of my Win 7 stuff (and by majority, I mean everything except for freaking Norton) works perfectly for W10.

Before upgrading, the W10 installer will give you a list of programs(or Apps, as they're calling them now) that do not or may not work on W10.

Everything is much faster and there is a multi-desktop function that I think helps A LOT with productivity. I actually have 10 desktops up right now for my web development, lol.
It sounds like you need a multi monitor setup lol

Thanks. A lot of the stuff i was referring to are user created scripts that run in Tapermonkey, along with a couple of important databases that can get finicky when re-installed. Actual programs I'm not really worried about.

I may upgrade at some point, but honestly, i do so little with the computer lately that it's just not worth the hassle. W7 works well enough for the little that i do.

Also, consider the source. I'm the guy who waited like two years before using my W7 upgrade disc to upgrade from Vista :P

Redeem it. You'll have 1 year to install, all for free. It won't install it on its own.

This update won't make me reinstall all my programs like a clean reinstall of windows will it? I just recently did a fresh reinstall of Windows 7 and do not feel like redoing everything again.

I'm not the best person to answer that, but AFAIK this is just an upgrade and not a new install. All of your stuff should still be there. I know when i upgraded from Vista to 7 using the upgrade disc it kept all of my stuff.

Before it even starts, it gives you an option if you want to keep your stuff or do a clean install.

The whole process is painless.

It will keep everything on your PC and give you the option of reverting for 30 days, after which you are stuck in 10 unless you clean install a previous OS.

Every game and program that worked on W7/8.1 on my PCs also work on W10 so you shouldn't run into any problems.

i have an ssd waiting to be installed ,i'm wondering if i should install 10 then migrate or migrate first then install the win 10..i just got the notification that win 10 is ready to be installed

Migrate then install. The installation is tied to your hardware. I am almost certain that means mobo only, but better safe than sorry imo.

too late :K

What GPU you got?

update: Nvidea driver reinstall/update helped but audio is still screwy perhaps the audio drivers are clashing (realtek and soundblaster) i probably have to disable the realtek one..dunno why it didn't stay disabled in settings..

That's why I was going to ask what GPU you got because you probably needed to update the graphics drivers manually. I always find it best to do a clean install. But heck I just went away with the upgrade but I will do a fresh reinstall in the near future.

I just upgraded last night and so far I was hit head on with UI bugs.
Background image settings are a bit buggy, it doesn't want to remember some settings. My mouse driver that was ported from my 7 install half worked, but I got a notification that my hardware had changed so I needed to reboot in order for it to take effect. My mouse driver now works. :D

They changed a lot of things and the new control panel still doesn't feel quite complete, but it's a start (it would be nice if they would actually release something more than a start lol).

I think my only other complaint is that they changed Windows+E to "Quick Access" instead of Computer.
There is a native setting in folder & search options. :ttu:

I like the driver updates through Windows Update. I know some people have had issues, but so far in my case it has only fixed issues and replaced outdated drivers 7 told me never even existed.

Issue #1 I see is that it will force restart no matter what you do. And it won't even save your current desktop state to do it.

I lost about 15 minutes of code. Not much, but it set me back 15 minutes.
