The layout was fine prior to adding the fillport. Once you added the fillport, it threw the look off.

yes true but i think ive found a home for it now, na man all them sensors are needed, im not a great fan of the in built sensors as they are not always that great due to software issues where as these should give me a good reading of whats really going on with the added bonus of being able to check/keep an eye on temps while gaming or watching films etc with out the need for dual screen steup.

but i may get rid of the hard drives temps gauge as to be fair the hard drives will be storage only so should not get hot while spending most of their time spun down. i may also change the radiator ones to inlet of radiator one and outlet of radiator two so you can see the temp before and after

this will leave me a fair amount of space on the front face for the four switches maybe and then the fillport up the top under the USB ports or if not failing that ill just put the fillport in the floor of the upper area so it can be right above the reservoir

Dude! put some analog temp gauges !......and a keyed ignition style power switch!

i had thought about using the car temp gauges but i could not find anything i liked when i checked around. i liked the idea of the analog style as its easy to read with just a quick look over, you just need to look at the needle where as with the digital ones you have to read numbers.

also they dont do them analog gauges with a two pin plug in sensor to measure air temp, so it would be just water only.

i tried this but not quite sure that it looks right again. was going to a 5th switch so i could turn the lcd screens for the sensors off but may have to have a rethink about layout or just lose the 5th switch

i have managed to find some black aluminium switches with white LED's which will be better imo for the build
[DOUBLEPOST=1404218538][/DOUBLEPOST]i found some scrap bits of mdf and quickly made the switch and temp gauge panel to give an idea of what it will look like, i dont think once its done properly it will look to bad

it should keep the USB ports and switches all within easy reach and also keep the temp read out within eye sight

just had another thought on using the switch and temp panel, i need to sort out away of getting the mouse and keyboard cables out to the desk area :(

also finished off my motherboard mounting

not the best photos of testing it but it was only a test and i was rushing to grab photo before i had to go out so never gave the camera enough time to focus, but ill get some better ones once its installed

had some bits turn up today so thought id would cut the holes in the test panel to get an idea of what it will look like before redo it

also the cables on the temp sensors are all braided, although they will be changed to match the rest of it when it gets done

still waiting for one temp sensor to turn up as they only had three in stock :( and also the 6 channel fan controller then i have all the bits to get this piece finished off[DOUBLEPOST=1404603092][/DOUBLEPOST]i was not going to make the new panel today but i went to get some more wood and the women on the checkout was taking an age to serve people, the line of people was 15 deep so i walked out and done some filler work to make it right instead

i now have this

[URL=http://s263.photobucket.com/user/pugsport85/media/Desk/DSC_0263_zps5dfa6864.jpg.html]

i was not going to worry about putting my pc back in the desk until it was finished but i thought it would have been rude not see what it was going to look like and share some photos.

i did not put the rest switch in as yet due to not having any more dupont connectors, i need to order two more so i can get that in and sorted. i also just need to make one more cut out in the side of the panel and then i can get it in primer which with any luck the weather will be goo tomorrow so i can finish then[/URL]

had some other bits turn up today

got my last temp sensor and my lamptron fan controller but still waiting on the black latching switches although this is now not stopping me getting it painted up and looking a bit better :)

last temp sensor is a G1/4" thread water temp sensor

they sent this one out instead of an air temp one because all the air temp ones were out of stock at the time and like one of the sensors it will be getting changed to a different style one sensor

the fan controller came packed well with quite a few leads and also a branded screen cleaning cloth :)

fan controller looks very well made although as yet ive not plugged it in to see what it looks like powered up or how it works, but how hard can it be and its rated at 36 watt per channel :)
this will only being running 5 channels max in my build depending on how many radiators i end up using and i wont be using it to control the pump[DOUBLEPOST=1404858753][/DOUBLEPOST]got the fan controller fitted and wired up, the other two temp sensors fitted but not wired in and the rest switch fitted

put the tv back on the wall today and put a shelf above which i may use to possibly display some of the pc parts boxes

and yet again also hoping for a nice day tomorrow so i can get the paint gun out and put some primer on the top surface once its all cut in and also the panel where all the switches are

Very nice Pugger looking pretty good! One thought I had, it looks like the center tower that is right below the keyboard would be in the way of a desk chair, is that movable or in one spot? Doesn't look like much space there for a chair and everything else, keep up the good work man!

thanks man

your the first person to comment on that lol but yer that was kinda plan/i knew that was gonna happen but with reason, that center tower is fixed the chair area but it dose not matter as i wanted to be able to add an extra 136mm to the left side of the pc area to create a radiator area/box so i could use 480mm radiators instead of 360mm ones. so every thing will just shift left a little bit

so the overall look will now be this
the red area is the area that will be added

not a huge change but it makes sense to make it now for more radiator surface area. so will be able to use lower fan speeds and get less noise :)

also means that looking in throw the lower plexi glass window at the front you wont be able to see the three huge radiators unless you look to the left a little meaning ill have more room to locate the reservoir and pump/pumps for a cleaner look

this is sort of the view you would have when you look a little further left, i left the view zoomed out a way so and never boxed in the upper pc area so you get an idea just how big those radiators are compared to the height of the desk

Very impressive. Looks awesome to me.

I don't even have a drill to modify my smoker with a proper temp. gauge :(

Very impressive. Looks awesome to me.

I don't even have a drill to modify my smoker with a proper temp. gauge :(

thanks man it getting there slowly although there is not to much to do now. the only big job left to do is build the radiator part and then its all down to painting and finishing off bits

when a deskTOP pc is not enough......Pugger invents the Desk PC

other people have done the desk idea before fella so i can not take credit for that but i went down the desk pc route because i dont have a reason to use a pc case (i dont move my pc around) there is also a lot more room to work

had some other small bits turn up today

i had four smd LED strips turn up although only two in picture. these will be used for case lighting

also had a USB 3.0 extension cable turn up as well due to the USB cable not being long enough on the 3 inch front panel bay

not a huge fan of it being bright blue tho but i guess its something ill have to live with due to not being able to find a black one[DOUBLEPOST=1405078401][/DOUBLEPOST]right im not sure which design is better for the hard drives. i dont really want them on show as the dont really look like anything special, at least the solid state drives are smaller and cleaner looking so i dont mind having them on show.

option one is to box in the whole the whole rear of the lower section having room to mount 5 hard drives with two fans to pull in cool air from outside the case to keep the hard drives cool and also provide the psu with cool air, the psu will also act as the exhaust fan for the area

the plus point to this design is that the reservoir could mounted straight onto the divider, not so good point is that this covers up the psu which i had planned to leave on show but box in the end where the cables come out for a cleaner look.

option two is just to box in the area needed to cover the hard drives (this is about half the width of the lower area) there will still be room for 5 hard drives, two intake fans and the exhaust will still be the psu.

plus points to this are it takes up less room, could cut a window so you can still see the psu might need a little lighting in there though, not so good point is it makes it hard to mount the reservoir and im not sure if the whole space looks strange due to it being unequal

whats your thoughts[DOUBLEPOST=1405123976][/DOUBLEPOST]right done a little more :)

first thing i did was to cut a slot in the side of the switch panel that sits at the back of the pc area to allow the wire for keyboard and mouse to come out

then cut the desk top flush with the front of the desk and screwed it down at last :) this was a complete pain with not circular saw, try to do this with a jigsaw and keeping it straight was hard work. and also made the new space where the radiators will live. the bit of 18mm MDF that is on there is just a temporary piece that i used to the gap and it will be replaced but for now it looks better having that hole covered up

also cut a slot at the back of the desk for the tv power and hdmi cable to go

thats it for now now and the next job is to get the top and switch panel in primer, this might then stop me from writing measurements and stuff on the desk surface lol but on the down side it means there is loads of paint flatting to do.

made up my mind that im going to use option one for hard drive location but going to spin the hard drive rack throw 90 degrees to save cutting vents in the side of the rack for airflow.

so final design for hard drives is this
side view

top view

front view without front panel

front view with front panel

i have been thinking about also mounting my ssd drives in the front part of the lower compartment to break it up a bit and also gives a little more to look at, was also thinking of mounting them on some plexi glass andusing some LED's to light them up. what are thoughts about ssd drives

view from from with panel on and ssd drives

side view with ssd drives and the blue panel is the panel that will be removable to gain access to hard drive and psu space. which will now be held on with velcro strips to make sure there are not issues with vibration noise

also not 100% sure if im going to be running single or dual d5 pumps as yet but being as its going to be a fairly big water cooling loop i think its more likely to end with two pumps and also gives a bit of safety in case one pump goes down

quickly mocked up the layout on some 9mm MDF (No SSD drives)

with SSD drives

looks like its going to be another in doors day due to weather being rubbish again so no painting any bits again today :(

you do a great job; good luck:yr:

Thanks :)

sorted out my hard drive mount

put it in place along with the front panel to get an idea of how much room there will be

looks like there will be a fair amount of room to be fair
room that will be left in front part of case for reservoir and pump

and the view looking in from the front panel

also plugged the front USB 3.0 ports in as well and ive also order some longer Sata 3 cables and a fillport for the reservoir which should be here monday with any luck. as soon as i get the fillport and get it fitted i get the top part of the case finished as there is nothing else left to go in there apart from coolant hoses

160gb? I assume that's a SSD?

I need to build a new PC. I'm going to shoot for September as it's my birthday and i usually get a few hundred from the Parents etc. :K

I have the money now, but i don't have a lot coming in atm and i don't want to blow a chunk of my savings. I can't even play Wolfenstein because my CPU is hitting 69c :\

It's rated @ 62.... I thought it was the ambient room temp the other day, but it's 78 in here now and it still hit 67. Not going to try and re-mount the CPU cooler or anything like that because last time i swapped the cooler i bent a CPU pin. Was lucky to get it fixed.

Maybe i can find a place around here to clean up my wiring and install a new cooler. That and another 4gb of RAM might keep from having to build a new one. Depends on what it costs i guess.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Can't wait to see the finished product. Send any spare CPU, MOBO, GPU, CASE, RAM, PSU and HDD my way :p

no mate that 160gb drive is an old hard drive :) 90% ssd drives are 2.5" laptop size drives now, you dont see many 3.5" full ssd drives anymore

sounds good mate, you better get planning the bits you want to use to build it then lol

yes i was planning on upgrading some of my pc parts but went with the getting the desk finished first and then ill upgrade after that, i really need a new gpu but im trying to hold out until the end of the year when the new chips come out.

how the hell did you manage to bend a cpu pin while re seating the cooler. yer was pretty lucky to get it fixed

you could sort out your wiring free of charge, well all it would cost you is some time and better than getting a shop to do it. im guessing you have made sure that the cooler is clean and not full of dust etc

its cool man ill let you off because im nice like that :) yep that makes two of us lol as i just wanna be able to use it now and not be building it lol. i found two intel core 2 duo e8400 chips and asus motherboards the other week, also destroyed and binned a pc case saturday and have 16gb ddr2 ram and this time next year my core i5 and Gigabyte GA-z68X-UD5-B3 will be retired after 6 years of service lol. think its the longest ive ever had a motherboard and cpu combo. hard drives/storage is one thing i lack badly at the moment but soon to be replacing my ssd as its a little on the small side + prices of ssd drives have dropped a fair bit since i bought my one so time to go with two 250gb or two 500gb drives i think

when i get the desk finish and finally upgrade my parts list at the moment is:

cpu: - core i5 2500k sandy bridge until broadwell comes out late 2015
motherboard: - Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 will be replaced when i update cpu
graphics card: - Sapphire R9 290x Tri-x 4gb in crossfire
ram: - 16gb of corsair dominator 1866mhz (may see if i can find some faster ram nearer the time)
power supply: - Corsair AX860
SSD drives: unsure as yet if ill be using 2 x 250gb or 2 x 500gb drives

Yeah, i put together a quick build just to price it. The pin got bent when i was removing the stock cooler. The damn thing was all but glued to the Chip, and even though i was being careful and trying to do it slowly and release pressure a little bit at a time, it kind of yanked off and one of the pins bent. I do keep the inside as clean as i can from dust, especially the cooler. It's hitting 45c just typing this out. Ridiculous.

I could tackle the cable management, but it's horrid and I'm afraid to do it. Everything would need to be unplugged and routed behind the mobo. I'm not even sure how i would route half of it.

I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and start preparing for a build. PC is almost five years old, i think it's time. My quick build priced out to around $1200, but that was with a 256gb SSD, 16gb ram, 850 PSU. I could probably trim that down some. We'll see how it shakes out. It's very doubtful i'd pay a shop to wire and re-mount a new cooler. They probably charge $70-80 an hour.
