PS3 controller on PC games

Can someone guide me how to use my PS3 controller to play PC games. I tried a few months ago, but the setup was confusing and not straight forward. Made me o_O many times...

Or, does anyone know of a remote control similar to the PS3 that can be used for PC games? I'm mostly looking to use it for NBA2K games for PC. With the keyboard, it's a bit confusing trying to do an alley-oop

I use a USB XBOx360 controller for some games. Mostly racing and such.

Step 1. Plug it in
Step 2. Play

Before 360 you had to cut the adapter off strip the wires and solder them to a similarly ripped open usb cable.

But they used the same connections.

You can try this. http://www.xpadder.com/

I used it once successfully to play Sleeping Dogs on the PC. It was a pain in the ass, but i eventually got it working. Not sure if i used this or motion joy.

Your best bet is just to buy a 360 or Windows game pad. They aren't too expensive. I thought about getting a cheap , used NBA game for ps3.

The 360 controller works perfectly for me.

If it's wireless you need to update your drivers as soon as you install the standard ones or it wont work. Other than that pain in the butt, there's nothing you have to really do except sync it to your wireless adapter exactly how you do with an Xbox.

This is exactly what I bought:
