What is Your Opinion on Death Sentence?

It's mentalities like that, that starts arguments. Just because you see it one way, you think everyone everywhere else should too.

what?????

Mentalities like what?

You disagree with me, so I'm a dickhead telling everyone that this is how the world should be??

How is anyone supposed to have an opinion?

I said I think that the power to kill each other should be taken away wherever possible. Thanks for the inflammatory statement!

@MikeK I think life in prison is worse than the death penalty depending on which prison under which government you are in. I would also support a right for the guilty party to choose death over life in prison, given the right circumstances.[DOUBLEPOST=1395692316][/DOUBLEPOST]
Nope. I'm not for the death sentence. Google wrongful execution. Before DNA technology actually became available, tons of prisoners were sentenced to death for crimes they had not committed.

I had to write a paper on this a while ago for one of my law classes and I found that 22 people in the U.S. were wrongfully sentenced to death.
Many of you might think that's not big of a deal since the number is so low but if you think about how precious one's life is and how those 22 people spent their last moments trying to prove their innocence, it is.

15 inmates were also released from the death penalty once DNA technology proved their innocence.
The number is only continuing to rise.

22 people we know of.

Ive seen a docu on death penalties in numerous different states and i think it isnt even that bad..
Man id rather be killed by some dumb injection than think myself to death in prison for the rest of my life.
Getting life in prison without parole is way worse than the death penalty nowadays.

Think about it, you can rape 50 kids kill 20 grannies and get escorted to a hospital where you get carefully laid down on a bed and given 3 simple injections, thats it. Heaven for all psychos on earth.

Should be a firing squad..... with tanks.

No when I disagree with someone, I just say they are wrong and act like I'm right.

I tend to think my opinions are right. That's why they are my opinion, and not a different one.

All I say is "I think people shouldn't kill each other, and humans are responsible enough for the death penalty"

Now suddenly the whole thread is about me? Wtf guys.

Here in Germany, life imprisonment is definetly not worse than death sentence. I watched documentations about prisons here and they seem to be like a normal room with everything you need for a comfortable life - including TV etc. IMO the death sentence should'nt be allowed but murderers shouldn't be allowed to watch TV, smoke in their rooms or something like that. I would just make their life a living hell, that they can REALIZE what they've done... But i definetly would'nt kill them.

I've never actually heard/thought of that idea to let people choose, it seems to be quite good.
The only problem I see is that there still will be people who will be sentenced by mistake, but in this case they will have a chance to stay alive and hope that the real crimial will be found.

@TheDude If I was to be locked alone in the Buckingham Palace with delicious seafood and wine every eveing but without access to anyone outside till the end of my life, I'd probably rather die. I mean, if you can't reach any success, if you don't have a family or friends, if you can't talk to people, I wouldn't even see a point in doing anything. It's like everyday is the same and the only thing you can do is count how many per cent of your lifetime is gone every time you take shower in the evening..

Yea but that's just you. Plenty of people would much rather waste their days away in prison, reading books and shit like that, than die.

and yea, I would assume that someone who knows their innocence would opt for the life sentence in the hopes that they are acquitted later on.

To me what you were saying is that you think one way, and you don't care if other people think differently, it should be how you think it should be. Your way isn't always right, and not everyone will think the same. You shouldn't push your opinions on others that may not agree with you on everything.

It wasn't rlly inflammatory. Srry if you took it that way.

Nah, not rlly...

And how did you get this from

"I say take that power away anywhere it can be taken away." - Meaning I would like to see less guns, less bombs, less death penalty, less tanks, less wars...etc.

Misunderstanding??

W/e dude. I'm just voicing an opinion. I don't remember saying "i don't care if other people think differently." If I didn't care, I probably wouldn't read your and everyone else posts. If i didn't care, I most likely wouldn't get offended.

Dude out :ntdh:[DOUBLEPOST=1395753122][/DOUBLEPOST]BTW I am sorry if I am forcing my opinion on someone. Not my intention.

This obviously is an extremely controversial topic as each person has their own opinion on how matter such as this should be dealt with. I know of a method that the U.S. currently uses: "Everyone is innocent until proven guilty." Know this isn't a end all be all, but if the U.S. applied this saying to the death penalty we might be able to avoid innocent deaths.

An example would, somewhat recent, be the execution of Cameron Todd Willingham. He was accused of killing his three kids with arson, however it was proven that it was just a regular house fires. The time that they realized that it was too late. If they waited for a year/two years they might be able to gather hard evidence that said person was innocent.

I say the death penalty should never happen. A criminal should be able to choose between life in jail or legal suicide though.

That would only be for murder, of course.

Legal murder is just not right. You're not only killing the guy, you're putting his family through a loss too.

Yea, I didn't think about the persons family. I wonder if his dog will miss him too. Gosh that would suck...

No need to troll.

Why would you want an additional family to go through what that guy caused?

No, you let the murderer spend the rest of their life in a 3x4 cage with little to no freedom.

Yeah, and let his/her family still have the luxury to visit him/her in jail. Uummm, I think not.

If the person has murdered someone, they should get the same thing treatment.

I'll try to make this as brief as possible but this is very complicated subject..
As some of you may know, I have spent a fair amount of time among criminals.Among them were many murderers nearing the end of very long sentences . To say that all murderers are alike is as far from reality as can be,any number of circumstances can apply. Do some deserve to die? Hell yes..Dahmer,child rapist/murderers and other heinous characters undoubtedly need to removed from the planet. That being said,Hawaii does not have the death penalty, for that reason, one of my cousins now is married with 3 kids and is living a normal life after serving 25 years for a multiple murder committed ay 17 years old...The guys he killed were going to kill him anyway so he just did it first..
People can regret rash actions very deeply, remorse and redemption are tangible among prisoners. I have seen cell mates cry every night in deep regret for what they had done and the pain they caused to the families and friends of their victims.
So in summation,I do believe strongly in second chances for some if not all,the exceptions being crazy evil fuckers.
The rub in all this is who is truly remorseful and who is not..it's not for me to say.

Personal views aside,DNA evidence etc at least will hopefully curb wrongful convictions but in a society as large as ours shit is bound to happen..

Yeah. If you are lucky, you just come as a criminal in Ausria into this jail:
