I didn't say I understood life in Russia.

People are so smug about America. It's a complete double standard. There are plenty of people in America who don't know shit and just spout rhetoric, mostly stupid rhetoric, and we get shit for it ALL THE TIME. America is probably the most watched and picked-apart nation in the world.

But like Jana, said, some people (like me) just have opinions, and just want to discuss them, and hopefully learn something.

What, if we disagree about something in another country, your way to deal with it is to
1. Not talk about it
2. Don't go there

....?

Not very Buddhist of you. Let's seek midway and try to be fair.

I see people taking a lot of cheapshots at each other.

These discussions teach me a lot. About what's going on in the world. About the people I'm talking to. Sometimes about myself. I find a lot of times writing a lot will reveal things about oneself that weren't apparent, before. I find things that I'm doing dickheadedly that I didn't realize I was doing. I fail to empathize correctly with someone else or try to see their point from standing in their shoes... You know, lots of things to find wrong with oneself. And on this forum I have done that a lot, just as I'm sure many of you will, too. Taking cheapshots like that can't feel very good the next day.

But see, that's okay. That's why we have these discussions. That's why we DON'T do the
1. Don't talk about it.
2. Never go to that place.

Because it's not about throwing weight around and making people agree with you. It's about the process of the discussion.

That's my take on why these discussions are good, and why it's good to share opinions when you have them, even if you're not an expert on the issue. I think if we all practice a little acceptance and patience, we can get over our differences.

I think most of the time you'll find that us stupid, ignorant, loud-mouthed Americans who think they know everything.... we actually know very well that we don't know shit, and we'd rather have you help us understand than get snooty.

Trouble is Dude - most people have opinions and DONT want to discuss them cos...........theirs is the only right opinion!
Confrontation is in our psyche, conciliation isnt! Ever it was thus.

We should be able to disagree, argue about it, tell another person they are wrong, and still realize these are just our opinions.

Having opinions doesn't mean someone thinks they are smarter than someone else. Or better. Or whatever.

Wise words @TheDude

I love discussions because I like to learn something new and see things from another point of view than my own.

^This. As an American living in another country, I know what you mean.
So many Americans seem to think that the rest of the world thinks like us, or that they should think like us. This is simply a stupid idea and is one reason why many people dislike Americans. Just because America accepts one ideal, does not mean that the rest of the world has to follow along with it too. Russia is a sovereign nation, they make their own laws for their people. If you don't like one of Russia's laws, get over it and just don't go there if it bothers you that much.
I'm sorry to contradict you, but the example of South Africa is striking is criticizing and fighting apartheid that South Africa has inherited Nelson Mandela (rip), the Russian people are very proud and I would even say too proud. they are blind by the demagogic speech poutine; peoples of Russia must know freedom and democracy I have been very worth by what is happening to PUSSY RIOT and I support all the combatants of freedom and it is why I want the AMERICAN
there have always been homosexuals in the world and throughout all the layers socials is a totally human behavior that is called love
sorry but they still NIKON must support freedom everywhere in the world and thank you for all the world

I usually like to discuss my own opinion. Altough more often than not, my opinion is the only wrong one.

True dat.

But also, "let them do whatever they want" doesn't really apply to the world's most powerful nations, especially if they have a shit ton of nukes.

Well yeah. But is them not liking gay people a threat to our national security? If it is, the NSA is probably already on top of it :p

Oh yes indeedy, that would be fabulous but History tells us that 'difference of opinion' is the root cause of almost all wars!!! My religion is better than yours.... in my opinion, ive got better a better right to the throne than you... in my opinion, etc etc.

Im going into my Bunker now and im not coming out ........

No it was more of a general statement.

But again, none of us is doing anything to stop Russia, here. We're just talking. This whole "keep your hands out of the business" thing is kinda weird, seeing as none of us doing anything invasive to Russia, even in the slightest bit.[DOUBLEPOST=1392072969][/DOUBLEPOST]

It's the guys in power who have money to gain from conquest who feed propaganda that sets social inequalities that breed contempt between those ideologically conforming groups. The sheep just get pissed enough to fight when told to.

What really causes the wars is greed and megalomania, I think.
