I didn't say I understood life in Russia.
People are so smug about America. It's a complete double standard. There are plenty of people in America who don't know shit and just spout rhetoric, mostly stupid rhetoric, and we get shit for it ALL THE TIME. America is probably the most watched and picked-apart nation in the world.
But like Jana, said, some people (like me) just have opinions, and just want to discuss them, and hopefully learn something.
What, if we disagree about something in another country, your way to deal with it is to
1. Not talk about it
2. Don't go there
....?
Not very Buddhist of you. Let's seek midway and try to be fair.
I see people taking a lot of cheapshots at each other.
These discussions teach me a lot. About what's going on in the world. About the people I'm talking to. Sometimes about myself. I find a lot of times writing a lot will reveal things about oneself that weren't apparent, before. I find things that I'm doing dickheadedly that I didn't realize I was doing. I fail to empathize correctly with someone else or try to see their point from standing in their shoes... You know, lots of things to find wrong with oneself. And on this forum I have done that a lot, just as I'm sure many of you will, too. Taking cheapshots like that can't feel very good the next day.
But see, that's okay. That's why we have these discussions. That's why we DON'T do the
1. Don't talk about it.
2. Never go to that place.
Because it's not about throwing weight around and making people agree with you. It's about the process of the discussion.
That's my take on why these discussions are good, and why it's good to share opinions when you have them, even if you're not an expert on the issue. I think if we all practice a little acceptance and patience, we can get over our differences.
I think most of the time you'll find that us stupid, ignorant, loud-mouthed Americans who think they know everything.... we actually know very well that we don't know shit, and we'd rather have you help us understand than get snooty.
