So I had my appendix removed

Welp. Yesterday morning I woke up around 9:30ish. Soon after that I started to have a certain pain in my stomach. Didn't pay too much attention to it because I thought I was just hungry so no biggie.

Took my mom's car to get an oil change and bought a Subway sammich. After eating half of it, I thought it was weird that my stomach was still hurting. On our way home the pain would hit me here and there but it wasn't that big of a deal in my view. Went to AT&T and the pain started up a little more and more. I get home around 5ish and that's when it really started bothering me. No matter what I took, the pain wouldn't go away. Weird I thought.

Around 8:30pm I said this isn't normal and off to urgent care we go. I had no fever, no cold sweats, nor vomiting. So it was strange to the Dr. She sent me to the ER to get a CR Scan.

Since a few weeks ago I got bronchitis (barely getting over it), the first Dr. said it might be the antibiotics that I finished that might have affected me a bit. He was going to send me home with some anti acids but I said since we're here I want that CT scan. And what does the scan come out with? Early stages of a bad appendix!

The CT scan was done about 2-3am. I don't recall. The surgery was going to be around noon since there were 2 others that had the same issue as I.

I went under the knife around 11am and was out of the hospital around 1:30pm. Surgery was a success. The overall pain I had on my stomach is gone! :vh: Only pain I feel is in the appendix area but that should go away in a few days.

I have a full week off of work. :D gonna try to stay in bed as much as I can.

Any of you gotten the appendix removed?

Wow, good thing you went to the doctors asap and had it removed Wally. I had my appendix removed when I was in my freshmen year of highschool after it burst and caused some unimaginable pain. It felt like someone was repeatedly kicking the shit out of me in the abdominal area. I remember being in my room when i felt this strange popping sensation. There was sharp pain in the lower side of the stomach area and I could barely move and felt like I was going to pass out. Lucky enough, my parents came home that moment and took me to the doctors immediately. My dad tried to carry me down the steps of our home but any pressure on it was excruciating. I had to literally crawl down the stairs of my home and the stairs outside my house to get into the car lol. Once i got to the hospital the ER staff put me on a gurney where I promptly passed out. I had no idea what happened afterwards but my parents said that I threw up while I was lying down on the gurney and they had to turn me over so I wouldn't choke. But good thing you quickly went to the doctors at the first sign of symptoms. When your appendix ruptures, it's something you do not want to experience lol

Thanks everyone. :)

@Gage holy cow man! Sounds like a huge nightmare there. Glad mine didn't get near it but damn it was killing me!

Not really liking this forced week off. I need help getting out of bed. Have to sleep facing up and with a bunch of pillows. The gauss (sp?) is bleeding a bit since I'm still coughing. Could be worse I guess.

One of my friends was alone home for weekends when he was like 14 when this happened to him.. Thankfully, he was clever enough to call a doctor.

Hope you get better soon and enjoy your week off :)

It's good that you got it taken care of. I'm thankful to have never felt any excruciating pain like Gage described.

I haven't had mine removed but a friend of mine in middle school at the time had his removed, but it wasn't "early" stages of the pain and all it was all the sudden rupture, he said it hurt like hell too lol.

Glad your recovering well, get the rest your gonna need it when the wife makes you do chores again haha :p

When i was about 13 my best friend and I were eating KFC popcorn chicken. Then he went home. 2 hours later i heard that he had been rushed into hospital with horrible stomach pains (turns out he had appendicitis). I have never been so scared in my life for food poisoning lol.

Some family friends had a son go through some nasty appendix issues. His appendix burst and caused peritonitis and gangrene because the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong. :\ The doctors operated and did not expect him to survive the following night so they didn't even give him an IV with pain medication :| (Bulgaria) The kid's a trooper so he survived, but just barely.
