No AB bought all the breweries. Guinness brewed in canada might be there just to make it cheaper to ship to the americas, however, I don't know for sure.

The guinness we get here is 4% ABV and is quite wimpy compared to most stouts (especially something like Old Rasputin). Even the "Extra Stout" they sell here from guinness is wimpy. I'm not sure if they water it down or brew it differently for us Americans, as I've never had the pleasure of laying lip to an actual pint in europe.

However, most of the American beer from AB and companies like it is pisswater. I work at a liquor store and most of what we sell ends up being Natural Light 30 packs. Cheap, tastes like bubbly water, doesn't get you drunk, so you can drink it all night....

Therefore:

I am inclined to believe that the brews sold here by Newcastle, Guinness, Peroni...etc. are brewed differently for Americans, cuz the majority of us just don't like real ale.[DOUBLEPOST=1391751206][/DOUBLEPOST]But for reals how they aint more lemonade in this thread?[DOUBLEPOST=1391751411][/DOUBLEPOST]Upon further research (wikisearch lol....)

Coors and Molson are affiliated, so they definitely have a stake in canada. It is the guys who make busch and bud that are ruining all your favorite breweries, however.

To be honest, when it comes to alcoholic shit, I've always been a wine guy. I love Moscato.

Rose-n-blum Moscato D'asti is fantastic, and only 9 bucks.

Plus, if you're going to share with a female, she will adore you. It's pretty and delicious. It's not too sweet, as is a common pitfall of moscato. It's bubbly. Crisp. And also it's got a decent amount of alcohol in it.

You should be able to pick it up at your local wine merchant. Enjoy :)

Also, if you like moscato, you'd probably like a good resiling.

Blufeld is cheap and decent. Also should be available at your local wine merchant.

@ the Dude : Didnt realise root beer was alchoholic!

Only tried the non alco version - didnt like! Does this taste the same??

Do you know 'Old Thumper' - its a bitter bewed in Maine, under licence from The Ringwood Brewery in the Uk - reasonably hefty at 5.8% abv - deffo not a lunchrime beer! Well tasty tho - one to drink slowly and savour rather than necking it streight down!

I haven't had it, but the name sounds familiar.... like it's one of those classics.....is it? I can look it up in our catalogue at work.

You reffered to Old Speckled as a bitter before. In UK do they call Bitters what we call Brown Ales? Newcastle and Old Speckled are both Brown Ales, here. I haven't had the Hen, but I have had my share of newcastle, and it tasted watered down. I will try the hen, as we sell it at our store. But, like I said before, I think they water down beer before they send it to us Americans.

Dude check out the ABV of the ones I posted:

Favorite beers right now are -
Flying Dog - The Truth - IPA - 8.7%
Hoffbrau heffeweizen - possibly the best light heffeweizen i have ever had. - 5.4%
Flying Dog - Gonzo - Porter - 9.2%
Souther Tier - Chokolat - stout - 10%
Full Tilt - American Pale - 6.3%
Lagunitas - Sucks - this is the name of the brew. - 8.3%
Brewers Art - Resurrection - ale 8%
Uinta - Dubhe - imperial black 9.2%"

I know wut you mean by deffo not lunch beers XD

Concerning the root beer......

It doesn't taste exactly the same. The primary reason is that it is brewed in bourbon barrels, which gives it a bourbon after taste. The barrel itself I guess is some kind of oak. It has that woody taste. It sits in the back of your throat, but in this case, it is NOT at all unpleasant. The bourbon on the front and nose is covered up by the root beer taste. It's different, and definitely a desert drink. Getting drunk off this rootbeer would make me sick just from the sugar! But it's still tasty!

And this isn't even real rootbeer. None of that stuff you get at the store is real rootbeer.

There was a brewery in maryland that was local to the lake around here. They brewed their own rootbeer, as opposed to making soda flavored like rootbeer. It was the best I have ever had and is quite different than A&W or Barq's or whatever you get from the store! It had spice undertones and a cinnamon smell! Fantastic![DOUBLEPOST=1391795724][/DOUBLEPOST]BTW if you can't tell...

I love this thread.

I love all manner of drinks, alcoholic and not.

And I LOVE LEMONADE

Dude, those are some fierce beers Bro!!! Cant speak for the rest of the brits in the Krew but I like my bitter somewhere between 4-5% or Im gonna be dead!

That IPA @ 8.7??????? - Im sure you know, but India Pale Ale was issued to british troops in India (doh) as an alternative to water cos the water was so shit back then - usually a really light weight beer rarely more than 4% (lots of crap soldiering - not marching in streight lines - completely missing the target etc otherwise ensued!) usually very 'Hop

Have heard of 'Double IPA' - a much stronger variant - might this be one of those?

Heres a few of my faves:

Wadworths 6X
Theakstons Old Peculiar
London Pride
Doom Bar
Marstons Pedigree

Some of these dont travel very well and are best enjoyed locally - say within 100 miles of the brewery.

Dude - Bitter is kind of an umberella for the brown coloured beers! - basically from the taste. New Castle Brown is typically a bottled beer, less hoppy than a traditional english bitter, originally seen as a 'working mans' beer. Not even brewed in Newcastle now!

Old Speckled Hen is brewed by Mooreland, nice in a bottle, but much better cask.

General principle - im a fan of beers with low, low carbonation - rules out most of the fizzy yellow ones for me, and tends me away from bottled (given the choice lol )
I do like a Peroni on a hot sunny day............in Tuscany!

The Flying Dog Double IPA is call Double Dog - it is 11.5%

In my opinion, it's not very good. It's too much alcohol. Kinda syrupy. The Truth, on the other hand, is pretty hoppy. But I think it's pretty balanced. It uses cool hops, i think.

We get the chimay double and tripel here, too. They are about 8% and 9% respectively. But, yea. Around the east coast here we got some pretty fierce beers.

I must say, we got a lot of crap, too. And there are high % beers here that suck monkeybawls. K-9 from flying dog sucked. Most of those seasonal pumpkin and/or christmas ales suck. They all have more alcohol. We sell a lot of Loose Cannon by Heavy Seas (clipper city) around here, and that's really not a tasty beer, and it's 7.25%.

Sometimes they actually call the stuff "Barleywine" which is what I heard stuff around 9% gets called up thar in the UK.

[DOUBLEPOST=1391805523][/DOUBLEPOST]I definitely would consider making a trip to europe centered around beer.

I like some of the beers already mentioned, such as old peculiar, london pride, newky brown, and a few others...Bishops finger, hobgoblin beers from the wychwood brewery are becoming very popular here. I also want to try Iron Maiden's trooper beer and possibly status quo's new piledriver beer. Could be interesting

what I notice is that they exist as many beers as regions around the world!http://www.lexpress.fr/styles/diapo...es-les-plus-vendues-au-monde_1166891.html?p=0[DOUBLEPOST=1391887642][/DOUBLEPOST]
Hot: Coffee (especially latte done in the tassimmo)

cold: Dr Pepper or Ice cold spring water (I'm on a weight loss program right now and have pretty much given up on fizzy drinks altogether)

Alcohol: Kopperberg pear cider (has to be pear), or Newcastle brown ale

Spirits: Jack Daniels and coke.

We sell old speckled, too.

The typical yellow super fizzy beers don't appeal to me, much, either. That would be our Budweiser, Natural, Miller, Coors, Milwaukie, Corona, bass, and rolling rock. Then most cities have their local brew. We have National Bohemian. It's our town's fizzy yellow-water beer.

Then we have "ice" beers, which are essentially the same brew, but with more alcohol, and they taste like crap. Natural Ice is a common college beer. It is pure pisswater, but it's bubbly, cheap, and 5.9% alcohol by volume.

There are sooooo many breweries in my state alone. The craft brewing thing has really taken off in America. We don't really have many "cask ales" around where I live though.

You can try cranberry vodka (like stoli or absolut) with orange juice, too.
The "not from concentrate," with pulp versions are the best, for this, in my opinion.
