The instrument that he is using in the video is a device that acts as a drum machine, sequencer, and a MIDI control. The one in the video seems to be Novation's Launchpad - it's got 64 programmable pads and it cost about $149. In order for you to have sounds like the ones in the video, you need to program each pad with certain loop/sequence/beat/sound. And to do that you need to have a computer with music making software installed such as Ableton Live (used in the video) or others like Logic Pro, Fl Studio, Reason etc. and what you do with this software is create loops and also music... (To create loops and music you don't necessarily need this controller...
