What do/did you do during class to pass the time?

When I went to school I slept during science, history, and math.
I read a book during English class, and PE was just like recess.
The only class I ever paid attention to was my Elective, and that was Ceramics.

Somehow I managed to get an A in all of my classes, and got my name on the honoroll list :D

Lol, shows the quality of learning on US High schools. If you're in any way gifted the school is absolutely no challenge.

The only class that is a challenge for me is Advanced Algerbra and Trigonometry ( Honors ).

I still get a B though. Every other class is a %100 though.

None of my classes challenge me at the moment. In my high school, seniors only take 6 classes. So we have 3 one half of the year and 3 the other half.

Right now I take:

Calculous
Art 3
Fundamentals of Communication

All very easy and art is fun!

I love how people are saying, "if you aren't going to pay attention don't go" or that by not paying attention people are okay with being ignorant.

I didn't pay attention in my classes because I didn't need to. I read the book, did my work and was usually done within 15 minutes. So I read and ignored whatever else was going on. My teachers had no problem with it because of my grades. Sometimes people can't just do one thing at a time, I know I'm one of them.

Now I was also required by law to attend these classes. So I didn't have much of a choice in the matter. When I started doing online classes so I could graduate early I learned more than I ever learned in high school classes.

Lol, I actually have to pay attention in my classes. Why the hell even go to school if you're not even going to pay attention?
:

Well you kind of have to go to school these days, i new i wasnt interested in university and i new i could pass so i decided id at least enjoy my time there. Lol

Also, you Euros have such a different school system that its obviously impossible to understand this, im not critising you at all, its just how it is, i think our system is pretty lose to america, and i think the problem we have is that school caters to the lowest academic level or whatever, its kind of built so people cant fail because if people fail theyll feel bad. Lol, now for a person like me who ont really need a great school record or any higher educationthis system is great, because of how easy it is, but it seems to make it harder for people who want to further their eduction because they need to learn more.
From what ive been told the Eropean system is a lot more intensive.

There is no "European" school system. How can you not understand that every country is different? What the American high school almost ignores and what, in general, my country does do is cater to the intellectually gifted and separate them from the rest, meaning, school is actually useful to me. Obviously if you don't have to do jack (no pun intended) and you still get A's there's no reason to pay attention, lol.

And Paige, I thought you meant reading as in not the school literature.

I do read not the school literature I usually only read school stuff at home or on days we got a new chapter assignment.

I brought 2 books of my own and usually finished one a day.

Isn't it possible to just race through your school then? I mean if it's so under your level take speed courses or just take the tests faster than the rest?

I can definitely empathise with a lot of the comments above. I do agree that you should not turn up without any intention of learning (or if you will not learn anything from that class), in order that you do not deprive others of quality learning time. However, with that in mind .... I just did not turn up. Double Chemistry or ... double 'Cinema'. Easy choice. In the UK there seems to have been constant attempts to devalue our education system so that everyone passes, and people moan about this. But then the Education Secretary decides to stop this (albeit not at the best time - in the middle of the year), and everyone has a go at him! You just cannot win. I would point out that I only did this for classes with bad teachers who would not cater for the different levels of student.

In response to the 'speed taking courses', I would advise caution here. I was encouraged to take all of my GCSEs and A-Levels a year early, and was fortunate that I achieved all of my predicted grades despite this. I do have friends that did not manage this, and feel as though they would have been better off waiting. They missed out on the top UK Universities because they only achieved AABB rather than AAA at A-Level. Universities do not seem to care whether you have 3 or 7 A-Levels, so there is little point in doing the latter if it will affect you getting top grades in the three you need. I am more than a little ignorant of how this compares across the rest of the world (any experience anyone?), but I feel teachers in the UK should be better informed before giving advice like this.

Yes im aware there is no standard education system for the whole of europe, but what i am saying is that in America and australia the system is fairly similar, and that they are both vastly different from the school system that you guys have, the rest of what you said is bassically repeating what i said, thankyou.

Expelled for having electronics? :picard: American schools get worse and worse by the day. You'd think they would actually focus on something that matters.
It's called discipline Dan.. They sign an agreement to a certain code of conduct. There are penalties for breaking their word and the code of conduct. This is on them. As the parent I agree with the school's rules. It's an outstanding school with very few issues and a good graduation/go to college rate.

Is a school having most of its students graduate viewed as a good school in America? Jeez, I actually had no idea...
