Meditation

Hiya

I was wondering if anyone on here ever engaged in meditation? Past or present. If so, I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences. Did it change your outlook- if so how? What kind of meditation did you practice? Also, any books/articles you read or anything that helped you on your path to learning about it.

If you have nothing to say about meditation feel free to post humorous animal pictures :p

Thanks!

I tried it a few times after being recommended to for anxiety. At first, it only made me tired and knocked me out every time i did it but i learned if you want to meditate properly, you have to do it during the day time when your least tired. After learning to do it, it made me much calmer and helped me control my breathing even in stressful situations.

It sounds like a positive experience for you, you mention it in past tense like you don't practice anymore. Can I ask why?

What's wrong with me today? First I read "Constant Abuse" and now my eyes read "Mediation".

Oh boy. Sorry Mel, I have nothing to add but..

Oh because my coffee intake isn't as high anymore. Caffeine was what caused my anxiety. Plus its hard to find time to meditate living in a dorm hall. I would be the laughing stock if anyone walked in to see me

+1 for Rafiki, he is one cool dude. I did when I was in uni, but then we had locked rooms. Was quite difficult to find a moment in the day when it was quiet enough to.

And in answer to the original question. I do, but not regularly. Nothing beyond a simple breathing meditation sat cross legged. Just looked it up and started doing it. I'm usually pretty chilled anyway, but it just helps me if I am under any kind of pressure. Doesn't solve your problems, but it gives you a relaxed mindset to deal with them. Plus, music really relaxes me as well (playing and listening), so I have many ways of stress relief.

oh don't get me wrong, we could lock our doors too. But if someone tried to walk in and the door was locked, they think you were :fapfap:
Its a co-ed dorm so girls mostly get the wrong idea rather than the guys.

I have an android App that reminds me to meditate. When you
acknowledge the alert it plays meditation gongs for 2-3 minutes while you meditate.

it's pretty sweet.

So I take this to mean you meditate, can you tell me more about it? Like how long you've been doing it, what kind of meditation you practice, and what you feel you get out of it? I tried my first 15 minutes today and went with mindfulness meditation. It was harder than I thought it'd be but the 15 minutes went by quickly.

It takes a lot of practice to engage in effective transcendental meditation.

Meditation should be first approached as a practice in the study of self-awareness an self-acknowledgement.

I think meditation is great and would recommend that everyone do it daily.

I should start doing it daily, as well.

My meditation is playing an instrument, just closing my eyes and soloing a bit. Love it, calms me down.
Of course this wouldn't classify as a standard procedure for meditating.
If you have the patience and time for it, I'd say go for it lol.

I'm scared of the dark, so I doubt I could sit with my eyes closed
without feeling like someone's gonna jump me from behind D:!

But, when I'm feeling stressed out I like to play my piano or listen to some soothing music :3
For some reason listening to Zelda tunes relaxes me... (Song of Storms~)

When I was younger I used to get lost playing the piano (still do actually). At the weekend I would sometimes get up, have breakfast, and then play through the whole of the day without even realising, thinking it had only been a couple of hours.

Love Zelda music in orchestral form:
