The end of the PC Era?

great scott, but PC's aren't just going to fall out of the system. I do realize that razer has their new gaming tablet that can play high end pc games...but what is going to help editors make those games/movies. PC's, though, truth be said...tablets are expanding in their capacity to do things that only pc's were known to be able to do in the past years. Personally, I think it'll take some time before tablets take over the entire consumer market but this could be within the next 5-10 years...this may seem like a short time but its also reasonable because of the way the technology industry has been expanding. I mean hell, the past 13 years is a testament to how technology has made some crazy booms, and the past 30 years has been and even bigger boom. SO yeah, this could be a sad sad next few years as we soon are going to be forced to pick up tablets...maybe...

What really bugs me is when you turn on a game and the menu makes you feel like you are on an Xbox even though you are on a PC. That's one thing that bugged me about MW2. I felt like I was playing a game made for Xbox players. Like they developed it for Xbox and ported it to PC. PC gaming may be on the decline but fortunately we still have developers like The Creative Assembly who, when asked about the declining PC market and if they were going to start catering to consoles, said NO. There are just some things you cannot do on a console system, like play strategy games. I also like that Assassin's Creed, while available for both PCs and consoles, does not feel like it belongs on an Xbox or Play Station when being played on a PC. Its nice to see that there are still some people staying faithful to the PC market. And while PCs may be declining in the consumer market, people who use computers for more than just Facebook and YouTube will still stick by PCs. When it comes to things like Photoshop, a tablet just does not work. The media and technical industries will be keeping the PC alive for quite some time.

The PC era will never end for me until they create holograms, or in-air touch screens. (referring to the star carrier in megaman)

But by then they might even make things like Desktops that can fit in your pocket. :D

Cost and knowledge is the downfall. You can save about 25% on a gaming PC by just simply building it yourself. And if you look in the right places you could save more. The majority of the public don't have the knowledge to do such, and they think they need much more than they do. So they say "I can't afford this, time to settle for an xbox." PC parts are declining in price, RAM has dropped so ridiculously much, other parts are as well. Eventually it'll come back.

Console players are generally pretty annoying, especially all of those Xbox Live 12-14 year olds who think its cool to add f*** to every sentence they speak... And those kids make up like half of the people on line... Certain consoles like the Wii are fun every now and then but none of them offer what a PC can do. One time when I was at a friends house I played him in Age of Empires III in 1920x1080 on his 42 inch. XD PC FTW!!!

PCs will never be replaced. They are the only totally customizable game system. When the new xbox comes out, people will abandon the 360 and play the new stuff. When a new PC part comes out, you buy the part and switch the old one out! Pcs are much cheaper(maybe not all at once, but in the long run) and will always be better than consoles. Plus you can do much, much more with a PC than any other gaming device. And it's alot easier to fix.

GO PC!

The availability of high-end hardware and innovation in that field will not decline.

It's a different market than what this is describing, which is consumer-friendly daily-use all-purpose productivity tools devices.

the ps4 is at least aimng for pc level hardware,as well as xbox 720...wether this means the end of the pc gaming is anyones guess
i for one would never be able to game on a tablet, so if they are basing the end of an era on tablet sales vs pc sales....don't think so..maybe the end of pc's "heyday" but the death of it?

By the time the ps4 comes out however, PC's will be ahead of it. If not, it probably won't take long before they are. Until consoles give you the ability to upgrade hardware or GPU's , i think they will always be behind. At least hardware wise.

That was my thought, but PC parts are gunna start costing more right? Not as many buyers so prices are probably gunna go up for HC PC fans.

PC gaming community is dynamic and innovative. While the hardware may be updated on console gaming, the community isn't involved or industrious enough to stay ahead of pc gaming. The community and the ability to be involved in game development is what is so great about pc gaming. As well as customization, free multiplayer, controls, and the fact that every game out there runs on pc.

And not as many buyers means prices will go down. When a business notices that no one is buying their product anymore, they don't up the prices to make more money, that will just lose them more money. Supply and demand dood. The reason for the increase in prices of some hardware would probably be more accurately attributed to the cost of materials in the global market.

For instance, China controls the supply of neodymium (a much stronger magnetic material). They price control this commodity with extremely shady national business practices (they are a monopoly), which has forced speaker manufacturers to switch back to using the less expensive magnets. This requires them to use much larger magnets in their speakers and still end up paying more than they would have. Also makes it harder to make some higher end speakers.

Agreed with the dude! I've been hearing of this since 2000, and nothing's changed so far.
