My car has been having starter problems. Push the button hear a big click but no turning of the engine.
Apparently it's a common problem, starter solenoid contacts get all pitted and dirty. So I go for the D.I.Y. fix. A week ago I pull the starter out (not easy on a modern car) to make sure it is the contacts and not something more sinister. Clean up the contacts (the only place I can get a solenoid repair kit is the UK, for 20 bucks, but I can buy a new starter for $600). No thanks. The car is three years old, so my repair will hopefully last 2 years and it'll be someone else's problem.
Today, I'm cleaning up the garage. What do I find on my messy work bench? The friggin weather seal for the solenoid cover. Sheeeeit.
