Sooo ...shutting down websites in protest of shutting down websites.??..possibly a better approach might have been replacing the home page with details on the bill and what to actually do about it..I want to know the specifics on what they are going to "censor"..anything besides copyrighted material for instance?

Yeah , i didn't understand that either. In order to protest the potential censoring of free information, Wiki, a leader in free information, shuts down. :fail:

SOPA is bad, and because it's running throguh congress, there are undoubtedly terrible other things and clauses attached to it that are completely unnecessary to stopping online piracy. I can't see a completely GOoD bill coming out of congress in the near future.

Anonymous is still a bunch of attention whoring tards.

Mojang will be shutting down their website to protest as well.

BTW, Mark Zuckerberg's veiws:
[h=6]The internet is the most powerful tool we have for creating a more open and connected world. We can't let poorly thought out laws get in the way of the internet's development. Facebook opposes SOPA and PIPA, and we will continue to oppose any laws that will hurt the internet.

The world today needs political leaders who are pro-internet. We have been working with many of these folks for months on better alternatives to these current proposals. I encourage you to learn more about these issues and tell your congressmen that you want them to be pro-internet.

You can read more about our views here: https://www.facebook.com/FacebookDC?sk=app_329139750453932.

I get the stopping the illegal downloading (alothough i like it)...but the nonsense about the music in the background of videos, and the censoring things, that CLEARLY don't need to be censored....thats the part that makes me mad.

When a legitimate movie gets produced, they have to get the rights for all the music they use in it. And they have to pay a lot for it, sometimes. Just sayin....

For the record, I have no problem whatsoever with sharing music between friends. That is completely different than hosting music for thousands of people you don't even know. If you take music from the people that host to thousands of people they don't even know, you're just as bad.

That's what I'm saying. Me and my friends always lend each other music. That's how I have gotten 75% of my music (75% of statistics are made up on the spot....but you get the idea XD)

If you don't pay for the music itself, we will just end up with more popstars like Justin Beiber, where it's not about the music, it's about everything else. That's just how the market works.

Do you realise how much some students rely entirely on Wikipedia to do all their research (fucking idiots IMO, but they exist)? Even a 24 hour blackout pissed off enough students that there were ways of getting past the page and onto Wikipedia 20 mins after it went down. IMO it shows these people who use Wikipedia for research what SOPA/PIPA will do if passed.

My hope is that this will get more teens/young adults interested in politics in America - currently if you asked the average American teen/young adult about various political current events, I would think that perhaps 30% might know enough about them to write a summary of said event.

Probably the thing in any way related to American politics that pisses me off the most is people not knowing anything about politics, not voting, and then afterwards bitching about how the person elected is terrible blah blah blah,

The american political system is made to make it difficult for the average person to get involved in politics.

I mean it's not MADE to be like that, but that's what it's getting turned into because that's just how the market works.... there's always a tendency for businesses to take more control away from the consumer.
