Banning Politics from the Shoutbox

As dumb as politics may be, I think people should be able to talk about it in the shoutbox. It may cause hostility, but as long as people stay within their limits, I don't see a problem with it. If everyone else votes yes, we do have a thread for discussion. I think I know everyone well enough here that when talking publically in the SB, we can be respectful of other people's ideas/views. Now if the problem persists and we cannot be mature about it, then lets BAN it, but for now, I don't see a problem with it unless is escalades to people wanting to kill each other lol.
We didn't ban it before, it was just one of those things that everyone knew not to talk about cuz it always got out of hand.
I guess people 'can' get put in timeouts but I don't see that ever happening.
Who's gonna draw the limits? Different people have different limits.
Ever since politics was brought onto this forum, certain people leave the shoutbox/forum because a certain person is on the shoutbox. It isn't pretty and I'd much rather have it the way it was before.
Politics forum can stay since so far it's kept fairly civil.
The problem isn't with people being permitted to debate politics, it's immature people not being able to debate without becoming angry.
Why must people become angry because they have different opinions?
Don't they understand that everybody has a different view on politics?
In other words, it's not a free speech issue, it's "Grow up!" issue where people need to debate rather than argue.
Besides, banning political debate is a slippery slope because, where do you stop banning speech?
Do we stop with politics or do we ban anything that people get themselves all upset about?

No, we can't ban any speech just like we don't ban perks.
Rather, if people can't control themselves they deserve a forum ban until they calm down and figure out how to debate without anger.

Fair enough.
It really isn't fair to do this.
People getting angry is really really rare and a ban is fundamentally unenforceable.
I voted no because if this goes through and it gets banned, what's next?
I see your point and why you say that it should be banned, and for one as I said before what would happen to the ones that ignore the ban and talk about it anyways? And two, what else will be banned from the shout, see what I'm saying?

I couldn't agree more. You said it's only going to be politics but someone sometime is going to think of something else that "should" be banned. I just think it's a bad idea personally. And like blu said, what would happen to an offender? Temp ban, perma ban from the forum for a week or what?
