I think the best thing to do is just keep running around in circles. You can survive without even having a weapon. You can't kill anything, but zombies won't catch up to you unless there's a dog, and you can knife them . And once the max number of zombies spawns, no more will spawn to you kill one. Buying a new weapon is cheaper than getting more ammo.

Good tip about not dying near the coke machines. That makes it a real hassle when you're trying to revive someone and instead of the press use to heal thing coming up, the coke machine menu comes up or vice versa. Ive died a few times doing that. I always use up all my ammo before buying new. You have to reload at some point regardless. Soldier class has SOH.
