Is it possible that we could get e-mail updates on threads we have posted in like the last forum? It is nice, for me at least, to know who is updating/ what is happening.

That option should be in your user CP in your profile.
You can check the box to get email updates for new PM's and etc.
It's under settings and options, edit options.
When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.
Default Thread Subscription Mode:
