HELP, My computer has been taking over by a major virus. It pop ups random search engine links every minute!
Also my AVG pop ups a warning message saying.. (Ill take a screen shot soon) while I'm in game and automatically quits the game (not responds)

Would you guys have a simple/complex suggestion on what to do. I couldn't be bothered googleing it as Google isn't a reliable source. And most of you I can trust with lots of computer knowledge.

Any feedback is appreciated :) Thanks

Backup your files to a USB drive and reinstall windows from a trusted media. (Like a recovery disk or safe restore partition)
Once infected, a computer can't be trusted or "cleansed".

I agree with Pwn, what I would do is backup all of your important files and do a reinstall. I've had viruses before but none that were hard to get rid of, but if yours is that bad and your anti-virus doesn't take care of it then I would feel safer just wiping the entire hard drive clean (format) and reinstall the OS. Oh and make sure you scan your backup files too because they could also be infected ;)

P.S. I don't know why you said Google is not a reliable source for information, I have done thousands of hours of research with Google and it's done very well for me, maybe it's the way you use it who knows, lol.

Yeah I don't think I would use AVG either, what I use is Avast Free 5 and it seems to work well. Another great free antivirus is Avira, the only reason I would not use Norton is because of the bloatware they include, just a bunch of crap with it that you don't need but of course it's up to you.

Not true. It's actually possible to clean a PC with programs as: Malwarebytes, rkill.exe

It's a painstaking process but it's definitely do-able.

I also suggest using Malwarebytes to clean all the flash drives you have (you may need to buy the program for this).

I have used kill.exe before and malwarebytes, but they havent detected any virus or trojans on my computer, Im guessing it's gone?..

my suggestion is stop downloading porn :p

malwarebytes detects everything, it's an awesome program!

Depending on what's attacking you, you'll need to do various things to get rid of those nasty-boogers! It's a lengthy process so some people just save their stuff and format. I've done both and I save myself some time by using the programs instead.

I use Malwarebytes, great program. I also use AVG and It's ok, not great. You can also try a program called "Hijack This" but be careful when using it. If you delete the wrong item, you can cause problems with your system. I've used it a few times and it's always killed the Hijacker programs with one click of a button.

Here is a link to some programs that might be helpful. It doesn't sound to me like it's a major virus, just sounds like a hijacker which should be easy to get rid of. Sometimes a system restore will work but a lot of these programs attach files to the restore rendering it useless.

Try booting into safe mode, running some scans and cleaning your PC, then rebooting.

|SOLVED!!| Virus on my PC!!

I Backed up all my files and did a 'sytem restore'. Allthough it got rid of some programs, Cod4 & Firefox, got deleted, but I thankfully had a copy of Cod4 and It's gone. Thanks guys for the help :)

Yea. When you do a system restore _everything_ on the disk drive is wiped offend the restore process put just windows back on.
I thought that was a well-known fact but i should have mentioned that.

One other thing: virus scan your backup before trying to use them. Sometimes malware can get backed up along with your files and reinfect your new install.

I know this topic is kind of old but just wanted to tell all of you a website called www.virustotal.com You can submit any file that is <20MB and have it analyzed by 40+ anti-virus programs. This is great for those small files you download from the internet. It doesn't hurt to have a hash checker to analyze the digital thumb print of the file. Take note that this is NOT a substitute for a good anti-virus program that monitors the safety and integrity of your system.
