the point to this thread is to share a completely free anti-virus. You pay for Internet so your ISP provides it for you. ;)

I used to use AVG, and installed on every PC I came across. But since I read Maximum PC's article (web article) about their free antivirus roundup, and saw how AVG adds about 25-30 extra seconds on to your boot time, I decided to see if it was true. So I uninstalled AVG, and restarted my PC. Sure enough, I shaved about 30 seconds off of my boot time. In the article, it said that Avira only adds about 6 seconds to the boot time, and I've used Avira before. So I went and downloaded that, and now my machine starts up so much faster. It used to take about 1 minute, 20 seconds. Now it's around 45-50 seconds.
So, I recommend Avira, as it is just as good, if not better than, AVG.
