Pc hardware question

Right now I have a pc with the cpu, the cpu fan and the power supply all connected to my motherboard. They are all brand new, and I assembled them today. Im just missing ram, hdd, os and monitor.

When I push the power button for a test boot, nothing happens. No fans turn (3 of them in the case), no noise that would indicate any activity, and the power led stays off. Is this supposed to happened, do I have to fully assembled a pc in order to turn it on, or are there potential problems with my components?

Or maybe I plugged one of the connectors in the wrong place?

Specs if you need them

I5 3570k
Asrock z77 extreme4 atx
Fractal r4 define
Corsair tx750 watt (refurbished)

You need at least one stick of RAM to be able to get the computer to post properly (technically it posts, but gives you a memory error if you don't have any installed).

Have you connected the case fans to the power supply via the molex cable? (The Define R4 has a built-in fan controller, so fan connects to the fan controller with the 3-pins cable and the controller connects to the PSU with a molex cable.)

Even without RAM etc. , shouldn't the PC power up? Make sure you have all the tiny connectors from the power supply attached to the MoBO. One time the very tiny power connector disconnected from my board when i swapped out my GPU. My PC wouldn't power on at all either. Took me an hour to figure it out. On my PSU, it was a very small two pin connector.

I was having the same problem with my PC whem I was building it. Check your connections. Mine happened to be that the 20 pin power for the Mobo wasn't seated correctly:p

Look in the motherboard manual for th proper polarities for the HDD and power led's and the power button. Either they are in the wrong place or they are backwards. Is there an on/off switch on the back of the power supply? Are both power supply connectors plugged in(4-pin and 24-pin)?

Check if the switch behind the Power Supply is turned ON and that black cable is in correctly.

If not, "rebuild" your computer again (Leave the CPU and heatsink ON)

if it still doesn't work,

Once you've checked that everything is connected, remove the motherboard pins and literally jump the Power Pins.
Just takes out the confusion of all those PC pins.

Also, I'd get the ram and just have one stick before you try and find out whats dead.

Most likely you have the power switch hooked up wrong, or your power supply has an issue. Check the connections, check the power supply connections and check the power switch connection.

Plugging the led +, led -, power and reset header (those things that connect to the pins correctly). Took a while to spot the correct position.

:suspicious:

Glad to know it's fixed.

Thanks?? Quite confusing if you didn't know the proper polarities is what makes your pc turn on.

I had the same issue the very first time I built a pc XD I just pored over the motherboard manual until I found it.
