IMPORTANT
MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR "MAIN" FOLDER
step 1) locate your call of duty 4 data's "main" folder. this can easily be done using a search tool bar. for macs, go into "call of duty 4 data" and the "main" folder should be there.
step 2)enter the "main" folder. you WILL see a bunch of .iwd files located in there, such as "iw_01.iwd" and so forth. if not, you are not in the "main" folder.
step 3)Renaming time: this is VERY important. if you mess-up you will have a bunch of corrupted files if you play with it using the wrong names, but dont worry, just copy and paste the following
rename "iw_00.iwd" to "localized_english_aa.iwd"
rename "iw_01.iwd" to "localized_english_aab.iwd"
rename "iw_02.iwd" to "localized_english_aac.iwd"
rename "iw_03.iwd" to "localized_english_aad.iwd"
rename "iw_04.iwd" to "localized_english_aae.iwd"
rename "iw_05.iwd" to "localized_english_aaf.iwd"
rename "iw_06.iwd" to "localized_english_aag.iwd"
PLEASE!!! double check the renamed files before moving to step 4
step 4) SKINNING TIME!!!! this is when you go and download your skins from Fpsbanana, cfgfactory, ect. for COD4.
when you download and unzip/unrar your skin, you would have either one of these or the other: ".iwi" skin files or ".iwd" skin files (.iwi and .iwd are file extensions, example: zz_menu_music_ak47skin.iwd is something you might get)
step 5) for iwi's download this file --- http://www.mediafire.com/?04h49vsiccnkqst --- Now you will need winrar/winzip to open this file. Once opened you should see a file called images, now drag the iwi files into the folder then your done now the iwi files are converted into an iwd file. Make sure you make a copy of the Base.iwd because you need a new one every time you convert an iwi to an iwd.
YOU MAY DOWNLOAD AS MANY SKINS AS YOU LIKE, SCOPES INCLUDED, JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 1 SKIN PER OBJECT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SKIN OVER THE ORIGINAL.
step 6)Renaming time: this is VERY important. if you rename it incorrectly, your skin will NOT appear.
rename your first skin to "localized_english_aw07.iwd"
rename your second skin to "localized_english_aw08.iwd"
rename your third skin to "localized_english_aw09.iwd"
rename your fourth skin to "localized_english_aw10.iwd"
for every additional skin, increase the value of localized_english_aw##.iwd by one unit value. DO NOT SKIP VALUES, YOU MUST START AT aw07.iwd and work your way up. if not your skins will not work.
drag/place your renamed skins into the "main" folder.
(side note: it is best that you keep track which skins are which using notepad or microsoft word; for example: green ak47= localized_english_aw99.iwd)
step 7) go into multiplayer/single player and see if they work! if the skin does not appear, then the skin file is either corrupt, you have 2 skins for the same object, or there are more than 1 particular setting for the gun skin (for example: there are deagle skins that only work when you have a silver deagle equipped or a gold deagle equipped)
