Go for it!...It totally worth his 15$...Usually i won't say that. Especially with EA or Ubisoft games, but even before finishing the game, i can say that it worth his 15€ (more would be a crime due to the cutscene)...And i just played the first two missions. (who said i bought the game?...)
What to say? mmmh...I was about to start a FC3 DLC, but it's NOT...Like previously said it's a stand alone game, so forget about Jason Brody, Citra and other weirdos from previous island.
Bye bye molested young rich teenagers. And....Weeeeeeeelcome Rex Colt!
A real badass Hero as we no longer see. He has the charisma of both Snake Plisken, Gibson Rickenbacker and Major Dutch...and a lil something from a famous iron canned cop. If you don't know all the name i've mentionned above...Google "80's SciFi/Action movies", make a list, go to the library and ask what they have in 80's sci fi movies, take them, get back home, make some popcorn and see ya in two days...If you know where these names come from (you also know how a VHS look like ^^) just continue the reading...
Ok you're back...
So Rex Colt, a Mark IV cyber Commando is gonna fight the evil Colonel Sloan, a big bad uber-over-powered soldier and the Omega Force, a bunch of guys wearing latex suit and lazer guns, on an island wich is 30% of FC3 Island.
I know that when i say this like that, it's not really attractive...But if you're a geek, you'll love it.
Except for the scenario, wich seems to be a pearl of 80's Sci-Fi, with some hidden reference to old good badass movies, nothing really new. Taking outpost to unlock weapons and spawn. Side quest "Rescue Hostage" and "Predator path" for unlocking weapon's attachments. Like before.
It seems that some collectible unlock some upgrade too, so they finally have a use wich is a good point.
Some thing are better in this episode: like the bow wich is finally shooting a lil straighter than before (thanks to cyborg's arms), the WallHacky view that comes with the camera to locate the enemies is more logic in this episode and his use (thanks to cyborg's eyes), you don't die anymore cause you jumped from 3m high in a bush (thanks cyborg's legs) and you can screw enemies with a better equipment (thanks cyborg's...weapons! )
But even if enemies are harder to kill, not that they move faster or better, they just have some invulnerability frames that makes you firing on them for nothing -they also still have the same AI as before- dont expect hard fight if you take your time. A good spot, a good sniper is safer than rushing with a screaming LMG. I feel that they have worked on level design to make it more stealthy but i can be wrong, it's just a personnal feeling.
Positive points:
-80's Humor, reference and atmosphear
-Collectible finally usefull
-Fun to get back on a FC3 island
Negative points:
-1 clip to kill a basic trooper
-Ugly cutscenes
-If you don't like enemies with 80's latex suit...keep playing MC
So if you're 30+ and loved movies like: Robocop, Escape from NY, Cyborg, Universal Soldiers and other oldies...just play it, you'll love it. If you are 30-, i hope you have a good cinematographic culture or i feel that you'll lose some references of the scenario.
