Should I buy an iPad or?

Hello Krew!

My birthday is on the 7th of May so my parents will buy me an iPad 4 or a tablet. Budget is about $800-$1200.

I'm going to use it as a pocket computer to read books, magazines and documents (legal acts and other stuff), watch movies and play some timekilling games like clash of clans or temple run sometimes.

requirements:

It MUST have FAST cellular connection.
It MUST be powerful and the battery should should work 8 hours or more.

Looks like iPad 4 is quite suitable tho I might have to download and read some rare books. For example german 200yo books about roman law in Russian :\ It's not a problem to find and download such books for windows but I'm not sure if there are any books like that on iTunes or if there are any viewers to read books in unusual formats on an iPad..

To sum everything up, I'm wondering if there's a $1000 cellular tablet that is better (faster and more powerful) than iPad4.

Thanks for your help and try not to post useless sentences like 'apple sux', 'buy a desktop' or 'you can use wi-fi connection instead of cellular', PLEASE!

Get the iPad. Why not? I've got the iPad 3 and my mom has the iPad 4. No remarkable difference except the price.

Clash of Clans was good until the patch after TH9, basically fucked over all the people who didn't use gems...

OT: I have an iPad for school, good for reading and stuff like that.

Android all the way! Though I'm not sure what 3G/4G models you can get over there in Russia. Can you get the Nexus 10 over there?

Nexus 10 is supposed to have about 9 hours of constant use. And an absolutely beautiful display :D

It's something like a 10.1" display if you don't mind it being rather large.

Isn't the iPad 4 the iPad mini

- iPad 1 - was square edged like the newest iPhone
- iPad 2 - rounded edged like the iPhone 3 (my wife's iPad)
- iPad 3 aka "the new iPad" Retina display. According to the Apple website they call it the iPad With Retina Display. Runs hot like a bastard and chews battery. I have this model and ended up buying a battery case (Kudo case) which ruggedises it and gives it massive endurance, plus I can plug my phone into it to charge it (it's like a mother ship), charges much faster that a USB on a PC
- next model was the iPad mini

I do note that there is now an iPad with 128G storage, mine is only 64G. With only the 128G version saying "new". Still not big enough IMO.

I would get whatever has the biggest storage. And any tablet that has built in USB gets my vote next time.

It's like phones. The iPhone has a bunch of icons, and the Samsung is fully configurable.

My iPad case has an HDMI output too. But it's useless.

Any hi-def HDMI content would use too much storage. You need big storage before you can stream stuff to a big panel.

I think they announced the iPad 4, iPad Mini, iPhone 5 and the new iPod touch at the same time. But iPad 4 is not iPad Mini.

iPad 4 = same shit as the iPad 3 but with the new plug connector. Forget what it's called.

@AVC, and mine also runs runs hot but with certain apps. Netflix, Hulu. Also, you might not want to play Hay Day on that thing. I play that game on my iPhone and it gets quite hot. It's the only app that can make my iPhone hot... I bet it'll make the iPad turn into a hot plate. Darn Hay Day!

The ipad 4 is supposed to have a faster processor, but again, you wouldn't know the difference unless you downloaded some super graphic intense game.

So the ipad mini doesnt count. Does that make it the iPad mini 1?

Apple make no sense at all.

There was the ipad 1
Then there was the ipad 2 which they still market. But only a 16GB version.
Instead of calling the next one the ipad 3 they called it the New iPad. Which has retina display, the A5X chip and up to 64GB of storage, and a standard wide Apple connector.

NOW, the latest iPad is called the iPad with Retina Display, which has up to 128GB of storage and the lighning connector, and the A6X chip.

Cant they just number the goddam things

I would go for an ASUS Transformer TF700 Infinity.

iPads are really limiting in my opinion, you can do much more with an Android tablet.

Like:
- SD Card slots
- USB slots like with the Transformer
- Transformer dock you can type with AND it has an additional battery for 16 hours of active use
- Can do everything an iPad can do PLUS it comes with a powerful laser for cutting up shit with. (jk)

Look outside the iPad thing, there's lots of others out there.
