Well a few days ago my pc fan started to get REALLY loud (it sounded like a vacuum)

I found out it was filled with dust, so I cleaned it.
I took out the fans and dusted them with some Q-tips. (couldn't find an air duster~)

After cleaning it I turned on my PC and the fan was back to normal again, but now my monitor isn't working D:!
The PC turns on normally, and the monitor has power, but nothing shows on the screen!

Help! :(

What dis you use on the q-tips? Or were they just dry? And eo you have integrated graphics or a graphics card?

I have a kind of similar problem.
I have a Graphics card and nothing sounds wrong with the fan.
Sometimes when I turn on my computer the monitor just doesn't show anything and I unplug the DVI from each end, blow on it and plug it back in and sometimes it works. Sometimes it takes more.

Ok, a Q for both of you. Do the motherboards POST successfully? (indicated by a single beep after powering on)

@Silo: look at the power light on the monitor to see if it has a rapid or irregular blink; also, check for a faint high-pitched squeal at the back of the monitor.

Edit: Silo, now that I think of it, your monitor eventually turning on means the motherboard is ok, so you can ignore the first question.

I use a graphics card I bought at Best Buy. NVIDIA GeForce

And the Q-tips were dry, I'm not THAT stupid to put water on them m(

Oh I fixed it :D

Turns out I just needed to replug my graphics card and restart my pc XD.

With all the dust gone, it seems to be running faster too |:3

Glad to hear it works! Yeah, I was about to suggest you unplug it and plug it back in XD

Look on Amazon or ebay or something and buy some compressed air cans. Or even an air compressor. Some good, relatively cheap ones on Amazon etc.

@Silo. Does your monitor/GPU have HDMI connectors? Maybe try that. I have to do the reverse. For some reason, ever since i built this pc , HDMI just doesn't display properly so i have to use DVI. That's with two different GPU's as well.

Otto had the just about the same problem on his computer, and it turned out that the monitor was shot.

Well, I thought it was all better, but it has gotten worse. Now I can't even get it to show anything on the monitor.
Specs:
Mobo: ASRock B75 Pro3
CPU: i5 Ivy Bridge 3450
Video Card: SAPPHIRE Raedon HD 6950 2GB 256Bit GDDR5
Monitor: 21.5" LED Backlit LCD HD 1920x1080
Using DVI connection.

@Silo: How old is the monitor?

My monitor's speakers make a crackling noise after a while. Not sure if it's because of the age (3yrs old), or if it's been doing that since day 1. Wife recently started using the monitor as an actual TV. Prior to that, I just used it as a PC monitor. Sound output was from external speakers. Strange. Anyway, the resolution to this crackling noise is to turn it off for a second or two and then turn it back on.

It's a new monitor. About 5 or 6 months old. At one point I plugged our TV into my PC with HDMI, but I don't think that should mess with the monitor connection. I have also been getting a message from AMD Catalyst telling me to update, but that started probably a month or more before this problem.

I had the exact problem with Otto's monitor. At first, it would start if I let it sit long enough, but then it would just take longer and longer. It turned out the monitor was completely shot and I had to change it. From a little research, I think a capacitor went bad.

Welp. Thanks for the help.
Yeah. It seems to take longer and longer each time.
However, sometimes it is very quick(Normal), and others it is not(couple mins of waiting).
