Laptop shut off randomly,

i was just plugging in my audio jack into the side of my laptop and just touched the usb connector which is right next to the audio jack and my computer just shut off when they touched, live audio wire connected to my speakers, did i just shortcircut my computer?

I have an Asus gaming laptop, bout 3 years old

lol, no i waited until the computer was cold, and then took the battery out and it turned on, but took a while, almost sounded like the harddrive skipped but thankfully nothing was lost

if it was a harddrive fault it would have locked up rather than shut down/turned off. sounds it could have been more like an over heat issue to me (maybe cpu fan stopped working or bad TIM)

it shouldn't be an overheating issue because my laptop is on top of a gaming targus cooling platform, the same laptop cooler my dad uses for his computer...and his computer runs way hotter than this one...but i should take the thing apart and possible see if there is any dust inside of the system that could affecting any of my system fans...good point to bring up

yes dust could be an issue with the cpu fan
