I'm gonna purchase a new sub.
I am going to get it from polk since I get a discount.
There are quite a few options, but I think I can narrow it down to about 4.
Here are the first 2 (the most expensive option)
-The Micro Pros-
http://www.polkaudio.com/products/dswmicropro3000 - I can get this for $490 (Retail 1,700)
This one is the most expensive. It's a little ridiculous, but if it's worth the money, then it's worth the money.
The alternative to this one, which is the cheaper version of this sub is this: http://www.polkaudio.com/products/dswmicropro1000 - which I can get for $350 (retail 900)
Is the 8" sub even worth it, or should I always go 10" or greater? The MicroPros have a lot of bells and whistles. Apparently they tune themselves to your room (they are supposed to set themselves up, basically). How important is this in reality? I plan on moving my system around in the future, so is it important to have a sub that sets itself up easily, whenever I do decide to move it?
SO that's the first set of options.
-The Pros-
The other way I could go is with a larger (12''), less powerful sub. That's this: http://www.polkaudio.com/products/dswpro660wi - I get this for $195 (retail 650)
The other option here is the 10" sub for $162 (retail $540) : http://www.polkaudio.com/products/dswpro550wi
I don't want to go under 10" here. I'd like to upgrade from what I have now, which is an 8".
These both require a wireless conversion kit that costs $42. So these 2 options really cost $237 and $204
-The PSW's-
And then finally the cheaper series. This is also a 12": http://www.polkaudio.com/products/psw125 - I get it for $140 (retail $350)
So the big question here is what is worth the money?
The MicroPros are obviously the most powerful models. They aren't wireless. I'm doubtful as to whether it's worth the money, but the discount is so ridiculous, I just wanted to throw it out there.
The Pros are wireless, while the PSW is not. I can't believe there would be any significant loss of sound quality moving to wireless, but mb i'm wrong. I am pretty sure the Pro's are just better subs than the PSW, and since I'm going to be getting a somewhat nice set of bookshelves (RTIa3 or a1 or TSI), I need something that blends well with them. But here's the big thing:
Am I paying more money just because the Pro is wireless? If I got a more simple sub (the PSW) would I be getting more for my dollar? Would it be better to get the 12" PSW than the 10" DSW Pro?
I have an adequate amp (mid-range onkyo), and there are plenty other ones laying around.
And I guess also the question that should precede them all....
Is the deal on the Micro Pro so good that I should just snag one right now before the micropro line is discontinued? (I feel like it might get discontinued b/c how many people really need a 10", 2400 Watt sub with added floor firing "bass radiator"?)
The goal here is to shake my house with extremely loud, clear, accurate bass. Don't care too much about the sub being super accurate at super quiet levels. I have a nice 'lil sub for that already. I will be using this new sub primarily for music.
Just like to add:
-All the reviews for all these subs are generic. They say "they are great" pretty much. No one saying what each sub is really best for or not. So these reviews were not very helpful to me.
