Help Building New Comp

I am going to build a legitimate gaming desktop this summer and want some input from those of you who actually know what you are doing.
I am going to build it myself to save some money as budget is an issue. I have approximately 1 grand for the whole thing.

This is what I found that seemed interesting/decent for the price.

The second PC on the page.
Any tweeks or modifications too that would be appreciated, plus general input, any other links (can be pre built if price is good), and suggestions for a monitor and keyboard.

Thanks,
General Computer Noob Silo

The only input i will have before Joe shows up is that you definately want an Intel build if you want a better running PC IMO AMD and Asus are just cheaper options

The build you posted is a good build, i5 2500k is a solid CPU, but ivy bridge just came out not too long ago might be best to invest in newer hardware for about the same price

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345

CPU is 10$ more, board is 40$ more, and ram 5$ more but the board I picked out has some new features like the PCI-E 3.0 so it might be usefull for future upgrades. side note on PCi-E 3.0 there not really that big of advantage at the moment but thats not to say there wont be in the near future, the rest of the build is good I have the same PSU. Case seens decent, HD is good some people might prefer WD.

OH yea video card you might want something else like a AMD 6950 2GB card

the extra vram could benefit if you plan to run high def

Havent really looked at monitors but you probably want LED backlight 1080p

Here you go Silo. You have to pick your own case though. This is going to give you the MOST horsepower for your dollar.

Stevo's build is a little out of date, I would ignore that.

Instead of the SSD get the screen since you don't have one.

Joe what have you been smoking??? I picked out almost identical CPU, ivy bridge out of date? lol He said hes budget was 1000$. The only better things you picked out was SSD and Video Card! Anywayz if your budget is gonna be over 1000$ and you go with joe I wouldnt buy B75 chip motherboard I would get Z77 all day long it will have every new feature out there, Z77 is the newest chip out!!! . Joe I think you look at these too quick, Side note SSD will not help in gaming!!!!!! 520watt PSU is kinda weak as well the 650watt was about the same price and its a solid PSU becuase ive used plenty before. IF your going SSD intel are nice as well but I would recommend Crucial M4 128GB alot faster read speeds up to 500MB/s and there reliable. Heck if your budget is over 1000$ then get the GTX 670 video card, oh yea for CPU the one I picked out is a tad faster for the one jow picked and its the same price but joes comes with free ram so its a good deal. Really I have no idea what joe is talking about the build being outdated all this stuff just came out in the past month or so GOOGLE IT!!!!!!!

And please dont ingore other peoples post like joe suggest its nice to see other peoples builds there tones of hardware out there and sometimes it just comes down to preference.

Just wanted to add this your a funny guy joe im still laughing at out of date!!! the only out of date thing might of been GPU's but as I stated I was just staying within budget!!!!!!!

1. Silo won't even know the difference between the two chipsets, so it doesn't make sense for him to buy a more expensive one and not even know what it does. I felt it was more important to get graphical performance over a silly chipset update.
2. Pretty sure the GTX 670 butt rapes the 6950 and 7850 several times over lol.
3. Yes I went a little over budget but I managed to give him a fantastic gaming rig. I also got his permission via steam to go a little over. He said he could handle it.
4. Seasonic makes the best powersupplies. The quality is so good even though it's a lower "watt" it handles tasks better than all other brands. It is also more durable. This powersupply will handle this system perfectly. Even with the GTX 670. 650w would be overkill, this system doesn't need anything more than 500w.

You got me on the processor. It has been a while since I did a build on paper, so I am a tad rusty on modern parts. But I think I did a decent job for only 10~min worth of research. When it comes down to it, with these arguments on the table silo will get a badass computer. My aim was to give him the MOST graphical performance I could possibly squeeze into around that price range. With the 670 in the bag he will have no problem with highest settings on games for years to come.

Sometimes the chipset fixes certain problems with the old chip set with the old board for sandy bridge the z68 chipset was the best tho others where known for having issues. If you guys talked about this on steam why even make the post? Maybe people should just pm you to get the details so others dont waste there time actually looking up parts for a budget that dosent even exist. And also its not everyone whos willing to buy a 400$ GPU!. I dont think 650watt is overkill id rather have more power then not enough, plus it gives me head room to add more components in the future like more ram, fans, controllers, drives... And btw my argument wasent about the chips it was you saying the system is out of date and I was just trying to say we picked out similar chips and my system somehow became out of date because of crappier video card lol plus he said he has a thousand dollars for the whole thing and wanted a monitor. Like I said might be best for people to pm you so others dont get bashed for no reason and dont waste there time trying to help others.

Sigh... here we go again...

1. Cheaper chipset = less features. Both chipsets are mostly bug free.
2. Silo wanted the most horsepower for his dollar. I delivered. You, did not with the suggestion of the 6950. Yes I went $100 dollars above budget but I asked him FIRST before I did that. My original card choice was between the 7850 and 6950.
3. I included 8gb of ram in his system. That's more than enough for 2 years worth of gaming at the very minimum. He could have gone by with 4gb.
4. He didn't care about controllers, drives, or fans. I asked.
5. Yes, 650w is not necessary for a single video card build. It is a better idea to have a high quality power supply instead of just a "decent" brand with "MOAR WATTZ"
6. I wasn't bashing you. I was just saying the video card recommendations above aren't up to par with the GTX 670 I managed to squeeze in.

Also, what do you think is better? Having a mid end motherboard with a really high end GPU, or having a Higher end Motherboard with a so so GPU.

When it's all said and done, it's actually good for silo that we are discussing his options. Now he knows what to get for the best possible graphics horsepower for his new system. And if we need to we CAN trim the fat and make things a bit cheaper.

cheaper parts = cheaper quality anywayz you clearly dont understand what im saying. YOU SAID STEVO BUILD IS OUT OF DATE!!!!! I said wow ivy bridge already out of date???? All you did was search similar hardware and just cheaper parts so you could fit in the GTX670 becuase it take up halfdthe budget. If he said I wanted the maximum video performance then obviously I wouldnt have picked out a 200$ video card. Again I say it again the budget was 1000$ with a monitor I was assuming, Anywayz like I said if you guys are just gonna discuss it in private and change the budget and what not whats the point of making this post and have other waste there time looking up different builds

Calm down Stevo. I appreciate your input and I am seeing what you are saying. I talked to Joe in private because he had not seen the thread yet and I knew that he is good with computers. Joe is right on one thing, I'm really just looking for good performance, I don't even really know what all this shit means. If you want to re-do your list with a 1100 cap, you can. And I would appreciate what you would have to say.

To both of you, can you come to a conclusion because you are throwing out names that I don't know. You both clearly know what you are talking about and when you disagree it makes me think that neither of these things is a viable option. I would appreciate collaboration on this. Maybe Joe said yours is out of date, I don't know! And maybe Joe went a bit over budget, but I told him it was fine.

Please just collaborate.
