stubborn mobo

Ok so whenever I upgrade one of my computers, I like to keep some of the more-or-less mid-range parts fort an extra computer. I put an 8800GT and a new psu in the rebuilt computer and now it REFUSES to post. The motherboard just makes 10-15 tick noises until it decides to change to onboard graphics. I have googled the crap out of this and I haven't found anything.

Things I have tried so far:
1. Take ram out to test for error. It doesn't even complain about there not being ram, it just ticks
2. I put a 4350 in and it works just fine and I put the 8800 in a different board and it works just fine there too
3. The psu works just fine and it is big enough. I tested it with the 8800 in a different computer
4. I have unplugged everything but the graphics card

So have I juggled all of the pieces around and they all work, just not in the one specific way I need them to :/

So you upgraded your VC and PSU?

Try one thing at a time, try the VC in a configuration you know works.

Have you tried going into bios after installing the nvidia card? So you can try to force the dedicated card?

sorry for the delayed response, I think finally found the problem

AVC, I tried what you said and it seems to point to the mobo

Joe, whenever the card was in the mobo I got a super delayed post, it just ticked a bunch of times and switched back to onboard. I went into the bios with onbaord to force the card and it seemed like it ticked more times and still defaulted to onboard

I had an extra mobo that I thought had a bad IDE controller but a bios update fixed it so I threw that one in and now it works like a charm XD

thanks for the replies and the help :D
