Ethan's Xbox

A few months ago, my Xbox get a 3 prong ring of death. Yesterday, me and my brother pulled it out, did a little "jamming the qtips into the fan trick" and the ring went away.

So here are the two remaining problems in the order is significance:
1. The screen has a blue, staticish film over it, which makes games look the worst they could, and is really pissing me off. Also, the sound may be on one minute, and off the next.
2. A 1 prong ring of death sometimes comes on after restarting the machine. It can be fixed by letting he thing sit for a while, but I never want to see any red light again.

So guys, any Xbox mechanics out there? I just think the console is dying, but does anyone have any ideas to put it back to normal(if that is possible).

sounds like its overheated and cause the solder connections to becomes cracked and dry

1: - put it in the oven 385 or gas mark 6 For around 5-10mins (need to remove all the plastic outter parts) or you can apply heat to the gpu with a heat gun. sounds to me like it has a bad connection on the board and heating the solder up will melt it and repair the connection again.

or of course you could just bin it and buy the slim version with much better cooling

Well, now it starts off normal for 5 minutes, then the screen goes purpleish, but the sound has been fine. I don't really want to put it in to oven lol...and screw getting a new one...they brake too often.

If you have warranty, its free (except P&H). But If you dont have warranty, there's a cost of $100 - $200 dollars to get it replaced or fixed. The older consoles like the arcade, pro and the elite will get replaced. If you cant be bothered sending it to Microsoft, just buy a new one, slims are selling for around $250 - $300 here in Australia
