Crappy Core i5 DEAD

well my i5 Died a fast and not so painful death last night after i restarted the pc and it failed to boot.

got no video on start up and the 8gb of ram was red hot so turn off the pc and left it off until the ram had cooled down and removed it and looked for signs of damage. could not see anything so put it back in and tried to boot but still got nothing tried one stick at a time and still it would not boot up. i cleared the bios cache and put a brand new 4gb stick of ram in there and still got nothing. all i get is the motherboard Dram led on solid saying there is a fault with the ram. which i thought ok thats not a problem maybe the heat killed them but after trying the new ram and still nothing i was a little pissed off

ive been told to contact intel and asus to have my parts replaced as none of the bits were over 2months old

Well that does really suck Pug, and to me it sounds like the CPU "or" the Mobo, I would guess mobo before CPU mainly because I have seen a few mobo's fail but never a CPU. Anyways I hope you get it fixed soon, sucks to have problems like this!

P.S. I think I'll stick to my Core 2 Quad lol, I have not had a single problem with it in about 2 yrs ;)

Dual core < quad core < i5 core < i7 core

Well that does really suck Pug, and to me it sounds like the CPU "or" the Mobo, I would guess mobo before CPU mainly because I have seen a few mobo's fail but never a CPU. Anyways I hope you get it fixed soon, sucks to have problems like this!

P.S. I think I'll stick to my Core 2 Quad lol, I have not had a single problem with it in about 2 yrs ;)

altho im pissed off i guess its just luck of the draw. somethings take more of a battering in transit than others and some times things get made with bad componets that slip throw quailty tests. its just how it gose. ive not had any trouble with my core 2 duo apart from my motherboard is dying after years of oc the cpu but other than that all is good. if i could have bought another 775 socket board then i would have not upgraded my yet but as no where seems to stock them anymore i dont have much of an option on that front.

i guess its the same with anything you buy you just really dont know how long its going to last before something gives up or if its going to be broken straight out the box. only difference between buying a can of soup and a cpu is that the can of soup is taken out the box to be placed on the shelf of the shop and is there for checked before a sale and all damaged ones and not displayed but when you buy a cpu its not checked to be in a working state by the shop

Am I right?

if you mean the core i5 is a dual core and the i7 is a quad core then your half right as they are both quad core cpu's but the i7 has a bigger cache and dose hyper threading.

I think your motherboard might be to blame here. It's VERY EXTREMELY OMFGBBQSAUCE rare for a cpu to just die. I think you just had bad luck there man :l

My core i5 is still rockin after a couple of months now of heavy use. Stock cooler too.

yer thats what i was saying joe that it was just a bit of bad luck. could have happend to anyone

i thought motherboard aswell but ive been told to talk to intel aswell and see if they feel the need to swap the cpu or if they think it will still be ok

spoke to intel today and they said that i should wait until i get another motherboard and test the cpu beforei go throw the hassle of swapping it but i contacted asus saturday and i thought i was going to wake up to a nice email from them today but no still nothing. i just hope they pull their finger out and get it sorted out asap

theres no phone number for them in the uk. the only phone number is for laptops and monitors so its all via emails

right so much for asus saying they reply to emails within 48 hours. its been 5 days and still heard nothing back about my motherboard. im now thinking im going to have to buy another board and i wont ever be buying an asus motherboard again or anything asus for that matter.

they are so lucky they dont have a uk phone line

Why didn't you send an email everyday? Why didn't you contact the company you bought the mobo from as well as asus?

i have contacted them and they told me to contact asus

You need to send an email to asus everyday until they reply. Why should you spend more of your money on another product while you have warranty on your current product?

i got a reply from asus last night and he just told me to do things that i had already done and then said that if those things did not work then i need an RMA NUMBER. i then replied with well ive done them tests and other and it still wont boot. so i hope now they will give me a RMA number like i asked for and an address to send it to in order to get it replaced or fixed

o well got an email the other day from Asus saying unless the reseller returns the it to them for repair they wont do anything about it even tho the board is 2 months old. i have even offered to cover postage costs but they still wont do anything so im left with no motherboard and the cost of replacing it. im very unhappy with asus and their rma service and feel done out of £100.

this is the first board ive had trouble with and still belive asus make good part but when something dose go wrong you find it hard to get it sorted out (even the rog stuff is just as bad and they are £300 boards) and for that reason i wont be using or telling people to buy asus stuff ever again or until i know that the rma service has been sorted out as it seem harsh to let the buyer lose out due to the reseller cba to send it back for repairs

Yeah that sucks to hear man, I figured Asus being one of the top brands of motherboards would at the least work with you on this one. I have a Gigabyte mobo and never had any problems with it, not sure how their return service is because I haven't contacted them, but it wouldn't surprise me if they are the same way to be honest, not sure what else to say bud :(

yer its the first time i have had to use the asus repair service as all the other board and stuff if got and had have been fine. i have heard that gigabyte have just started takign boards and things back with out it having to go throw the reseller and they have uk repair site so from now on ill be using gigabyte stuff
