Hey guys, I found a way that you can rip MP4 off movies with/without a copy write protection.
I am not trying to encourage piracy, but its a good trick to know if you have any family videos or DVD's which you want to store on a harddrive to create a backup.

First download DVD43 ( http://www.brothersoft.com/d.php?so...m/dvd_video/video_tools/DVD43_4-6-0_Setup.exe ).

Install as directed and launch program (A computer reboot might be required).

Secondly, install Handbreak (A free DVD ripping software).

Install as directed and launch program.

Insert a CD of your choice (DVD43 will automatically decrypt the DVD).

Go to the top right corner of handbreak and find 'source' then select your CD Drive (It should be the name of the movie).

Click it, Handbreak will automatically scan titles NOTE: Your DVD isnt being ripped JUST yet (wait for handbreak to scan all titles before you can rip).

Choose a destination for your DVD to be saved to.

Then just click 'Start' (Should be to the right of source).

Wait for Handbreak to rip your movie.

Wallah, your movie has been backed up.

I buy dvds just like I buy albums and cds too. I like it better that way. Every time I download a video from the internet the quality is never as good as it is on the dvd.

Nice post man, I normally use DVDFab to rip mine but I'll check this out!

This is the reason he was talking about ripping a movie from a DVD, not downloading it from the internet. When you download it probably 99% of them are compressed to make the download size smaller, of course when you do this it also takes out the quality of the movie. For example you would have an original movie on a disk that is 4 gigabytes, well typically when a movie is converted and compressed to .avi to upload it, it then becomes around 700 megabytes, that's a huge difference and apparently it is compressed a LOT!

Doesn't work on 64 bit.
Anyone know a program that works with W7?

Yes. AnyDVD HD and CloneDVD. Click here. I've been using it for years. Well not much the last 2 years or so, cuz I don't have a need for it. But they do work.

And you'll need both for it to work. AnyDVD decrypts and CloneDVD burns the DVD.

What's a DVD?

Since Netflix, 2TB drives with tons of movies and music, uTorrent and iTunes, i haven't bought a DVD in years.

Good thread tho.

I've got DVD shrink, which I'm thinking is same same with Clone.

Trouble is, I need something that will minimise it down to an MPEG-4.
