Hey everyone,
We are running an experiment the next month or so. The experiment is testing a new dedicated machine to run 10+ servers solely for our use! The location of the machine is in San Jose, CA; a bit farther to the Euro folks but a little closer to the Aussie folks. If the experiment works out as we think it should, most of the current servers will be moved to the new location. FYI, S1 WILL STAY as long as it takes to get the new FFA Broadcast server populated.
Why the change? For one, it's a dedicated machine for us alone. At the moment, we are on shared hosting and this is probably why we have quite a bit of lag since a machines resources are being split in who knows how many other servers. Two, our GSP (game server provider) has said we can run 10+ game servers easily (we'll see about that - hence the experiment). Three, to diversify a bit.
Here's how we hope it plans out:
-Keep the dedicated machine (San Jose, CA)
-Keep Server 1 as it is (Dallas, TX)
-the possibility of adding other games for our Krew, e.i. Team Fortress 2, Killing Floor, L4D2, plus a few others and the monthly price wont go up.
-If the need is there, we can get a server located in Washington, D.C.
-Lesser lag (hopefully). We wont know 'til it gets heavily used
-no more daily reboots. It'll be once a week now.
Since we're in experiment mode, to be on the safe side, we're keeping the current servers we have in Dallas, TX. If the San Jose experiment doesn't work out, we can cancel it and keep what we have now.
I know I'm forgetting something, so I'll add as I go.
Either way, feel free to post comments, questions and anything else in between!
edit:
by the way, the IP address to this machine is 50.23.127.82
All servers will have the same IP address but the ports will change. I've already set-up 2 servers that should be running, which are:
FFA Broadcast @ 50.23.127.82:28960
TDM @ 50.23.127.82:28961
