Yea , I almost mentioned that.
With more light (from a flash) the shutter stays open less time permitting more focus. (e.g., less time to show blur of movement)

It is great that there is no flash he just needs to hold that camera still. Flashes ruin otherwise great pictures.

Flashes can be great or not, depends on the light and situation. If the shutter is open to long it's very hard to not get motion blur. He needed the portrait setting or auto setting for a very fast shutter speed.

And the only flash i really like are the ones that point straight up and can have filter put on them. You put an orange filter on there and the flash bounces off the ceiling and makes the photo look just like you took the picture with good house lighting
