Got a new SSD drive yesterday 128GB cricial C300, noticed a speed difference at first but not really what I expected so I did a firmware update. Lost some data in the process I guess the update finished succefull but when I went to boot up it didnt work. This time before reinstalling I did a little tweaking and set the motherboard settings for sata to AHCI mode instead of IDE and wow did it ever make a difference. Before that it would score 7.2 in windows rating now its scores 7.6! and the speed is nice now. So for anyone doing this in the future make sure to update firmware before installing OS and make sure to set the bios settings for sata ports to AHCI and you will be very pleased with your product

I need to do a firmware update. What version is the newest one on? And do you have the link so I can do mine later today? Thanks.

you can download it right from there site here http://www.crucial.com/support/firmware.aspx latest update is 007 just make sure you back up anything just in case windows wont boot after the update. It says it should but mine didnt it and I did the reinstall and its working great. Made a big difference running it in AHCI mode vs IDE also. I think blu might of made the same mistake since he said he couldn't do updates well that's what happened to me and I changed the setting an wow is all I got to say lol and the updates all installed no problem :)

Man I'm glad you mentioned changing to AHCI mode stevo, I would have never known that if you didn't. Oh btw you can do this without reinstalling windows, when I did it I did the registry tweak for it so it would install the drivers at boot up, and after I changed the registry setting I changed the IDE to AHCI in the bio. At first I was having a problem because it was trying to load my OS from another drive, but for some reason it changed my boot order for the HD's too, so I changed my HD back to the C300 and all was good!!

My WEI was 7.2 when I first installed, dropped to 6.7 for whatever reason (not sure), but after I did this AHCI tweak I am back up to a whopping 7.7!! Woohoo thx stevo for the tip man!

Good to hear blu thats why I sent you a pm to make sure you got the message lol figured you had a similar problem. I was able to download updates prior but couldn't install them and I didn't find it performed that well. And mine didnt have the most up to date firmware so I upgraded to 007 as well. Enjoy the real speed now haha
