Alabama Needs Help

So alabama got devastated by bad weather, maybe to the point where they need help from elsewhere. Seeing as I am unemployed and I live in Maryland (not TOO far from Alabama) and it's kinda my duty as an american to help out with shit like this, I was thinkin' maybe I should go down and help out. Only problem is, I have no idea how to go about this. Anyone got any info? If it turns out they really need help, I also urge our other east coast members to lend a hand.

I'd personally would just donate money. If you can drive to Alabama, then instead of driving think of just sending that money that you were gonna spend on gas & food going to Alabama, and just send it to the Red Cross. It'll help them instead.

As Walt said, probably the safest way to do anything is with the Red Cross foundation. They will be out here serving. If you can drive down, seriously, let me know. I would love to have anyone here who could help. Please, one major thing everyone can do is keep us in your prayers. I know some of y'all don't think that will help, but please, either pray or at least think of all of us down here.

It really is amazing how close people can come after a natural disaster. People now a days tend to be secluded, but I was helping clear my girlfriend's yard today and I saw people running up and down the street, grasping chainsaws, running rations to people, driving the injured one to medical help on 4-wheelers.

Times like these are when America flourishes. Times like these are what makes America Great!

Keep us in your thoughts,
Drew and all us from the Southeast

I would rather drive down and help out myself, taking comfort in the fact you know what you're doing making a difference. I am leery of sending money to any organization as you never know where your money truly goes.

But you could count on red cross but I like doing it Inc way it feels good to help someone in need.

Going down solo and untrained isn't going to help anyone. There are major logistical issues and too many folks trying to help and unfortunately they mostly just hurt the efforts. If you do go anywhere near there to help, go as part of an organization, make sure your help is wanted, and have something to offer when you get there..

I was thinking of helping out as part of an organization, not just driving down and walking up to someone and being like "IM HERE!" or even worse "TheDude is Here all may cheer!"

Obviously an untrained loser like me would need a boss to tell me what to do.

I understand, though. I was a lifeguard for 2 years. It's like those idiots who think they should just jump in and "save a life" or give CPR, and in the end all they do is get in the way of the lifeguard, start drowning themselves (drowning peeps tend to pull whoever gets near them down with them XD), or (in the case of CPR) just crack some ribs.
