Currently, Apple has Droid beat hands down. Druids are clunky and have shitty battery life. They crash quite often and are a general disgrace to the smartphone community. But, given some time, I think Droids will come around and compete very well with the IPhone.

As of right now, IPhone > Android.
As of 10 years, who knows?

Depends If you want it as a phone, or as a mini PC, if the latter, then get an iPhone, otherwise, droids ftw.

Android vs iPhone iOS

We wanted to set a poll about which you prefer, Android OS vs Apple iOS.
Android activations are 350,000 per day so in numbers Android is already winning in number of new devices.

Post real debate reasons why you prefer one over the other.
It's not a pointless popularity contest, it's a debate between sides.
Present your arguments for and against each operating system.

Do your research about the other product before slamming it.
Don't just say stuff like "Android sucks!". That's a cop out and makes you look foolish.

I love Android at this point but maybe Apple will make some needed changes.
Reasons for my vote that Android is best:

Apple iOS is a nice OS but it's extremely limited in that you only get simple icons on the screen.
By comparison, Android you can have applications, images, shortcuts, anything.

Some key Android Features:
- Metal detector
- Secure wireless base station (giving internet to nearby wireless devices)
- Flashlight
- Compass, level
- Barcode scanner
- GPS, mapping, traffic warnings
- Orbital Mind control application for making your parents buy you shiz you don't need. (I made that up)
- After market operating system images so you can install your own operating system.

Here are some android desktops: You have 5 desktops with anything on any desktop.
This image shows all desktops placed side by side.

Why iPhone is severely lacking.
What do you get with an iPhone on your desktop? Icons. wow -.-
- You can't change anything about the desktop, icons except for dragging them around.
- You can delete icons, that's pretty entertaining.
- You do get lots of cool applications, that's the redeeming feature of iPhone OS but Android is very quickly catching up and will likely pass iOS.
- What if your battery is dead? You are out of luck unless you can plug it in or have an external battery source. (Android devices have removable batteries)

I've never owned an Android phone but I have used it probably an hour tops (brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws all own HTC Evo 4G). It's a nice OS but I'm not sure if it's for me at the moment.

Some key Android Features:
- Metal detector *I don't think the iPhone has that. It's OK, I don't think I'll ever need it*
- Secure wireless base station (giving internet to nearby wireless devices) *I've been tethering since the 1st generation iPhone*
- Flashlight *there are apps for that. iPhone 4 uses the LED light. previous iPhones uses an app for that*
- Compass, level *iPhone 3GS and on has this feature. I have no need for it regardless*
- Barcode scanner *we have that too*
- GPS, mapping, traffic warnings *iPhone 3G and on has it*
- Orbital Mind control application for making your parents buy you shiz you don't need. (I made that up) *that'd be uber-c00l! LOL*
- After market operating system images so you can install your own operating system. *I'm sure that's cool*

Why iPhone is severely lacking.
What do you get with an iPhone on your desktop? Icons. wow -.-
- You can't change anything about the desktop, icons except for dragging them around. We have winterboard for that
- You can delete icons, that's pretty entertaining. OK
- You do get lots of cool applications, that's the redeeming feature of iPhone OS but Android is very quickly catching up and will likely pass iOS. sweet!
- What if your battery is dead? You are out of luck unless you can plug it in or have an external battery source. (Android devices have removable batteries) Why would one carry an extra battery all the time? Everyone and their grandma has an iPod, so you can probably just ask someone to connect your iPhone to their cable. Can't say the same for the mini-usb plug the HTC Evo 4G. I constantly hear my in-laws complaining that their phones die far too fast. I use my iPhone constantly and it lasts me for at least a day. My wife doesn't use hers as often and she makes hers last for 2+ days.

And if you say I have to jailbreak my iPhone to get the most of what I mentioned - you're right, I had to do that. But what's the fun in having something always stock? You gotta hack it to make your phone (and everything else) unique from others. That's the part that makes it fun.

PS. I'm very content with my iPhone, minus the smaller screen ATM. I hear the iPhone 5 will come with 4" screen which shouldn't increase in size overall. Looking forward to it!

I got an Ipod Touch 4 with iOS4, and it is a lot slower running than my old iPod touch. It's not just slow, things actually lag visually..... a lot.

I don't know enough to vote, though, never having used an Android.

I have an iPhone 3GS and i love it, but the things you can do with the android makes me jealous. I think the iPhone OS is a lot more smoother than the Android but Android is a lot more chunky in terms of FPS.

So an Android is a phone? When I was first reading this, I thought it was a computer until I saw the screen shots. Android looks nice, but the I phone as more apps and stuff right? Anyways, I just like the way the Android looks. If any of these phones can make calls, then I'm happy lol. I just wish they had these phones for the phone plan I'm apart of because I don't like paying for minutes and stuff like that.

Android is an operating system for many phones, e.i. HTC Evo 4G. Apple's cell phone operating systems are called iOS which can be found in all iPhones and iTouch's.

I like my iPhone
because it's easy to sync with my mac (including transfer of podcasts with playposition, calendar, contacts, full backup, ...)
because i got it directly from apple and i get the updates directly from apple too
because it's working nicely
because i don't need a credit card to buy stuff in the app store (i don't have a credit card)

(in germany) android phones are usually sold by a telco that got it from some manufacturer that got the os from google, that's not the best way to get updates and not the best way to get the best telco-contract

android might get higher market share but iOS is already big enough to have some apps and apple has been selling macs for yrs making profit w/o dominating the pc/os market

OK, heres my 2 cent0's on this subject

derp derp derp derp derp derp derp derp derp

lol kidding. but seriously, iOS I feel was designed better than android, but android has more features and can do a lot more than a standard iphone.

GUI:
iOS: easy to use, runs smoothly without feeling it lag
android: Not bad, gadgets are cool, overall slick but it feels somewhat laggy and choppy

features:
iOS: not as much
android: over 9000
iOS jailbroken: over 9000

overall, I currently think a jailbroken iphone is about equal to a decent spec android phone (1ghz + ARM with 512mb ram or more)

so with that said, im not voting in the pole

I use my itouch for only a few things, YouTube, Facebook, a bit of music, and tapatalk. I more often use my PC for these things, unless I'm in bed, I've tried out the newer itouchs, they visually lag, unlike droid phones.

apple. droid is SH*T! My friend had one, after 2 days he tried to turn it off and on again. No luck. He had no warranty for it and went to buy an iphone. he jailbroke it with redsn0w and now its been working smoother than Jesus' beard

You forgot the third option.
Symbian.

My new Nokia N8 has Symbian. It's a bit like Android insofar as you can customise the home screens. Wall papers, icons, music player readouts, calendar notes etc.
One problem with Symbian is they are definitely not as web friendly (my wife iPhone has it beat hands down).
But my Nokia has one of the most kick ass cameras around, which is one of my primary needs. Phone > camera > MP3 player > notes > calendar > alarm clock > web. I hardly ever web on my phone, but I would use the camera near every day.
