Locking threads and other forum responsibilities.

Hello,

This is not a large problem or a recurring one as far as I have seen. Anyone else chime in if I am wrong there. It has come to my attention that threads are being locked by moderators. Posts are also being deleted, threads moved... etc. I was under the impression that these tasks were to be handled by Super Moderators and above. This is to avoid senseless and overly frequent forum moderation, as our staff is fairly large.

Take this thread for example: http://www.kkkgaming.com/showthread.php?t=3252

I see no reason to lock the thread until the proper people have been contacted or those people have responded. In fact, seeing as how there were more than a few members present when the ban was made, more input could be helpful.

The people responsible for locking this thread, if it were up to me, would be Admins or Pwnsauce. Seeing as how those are the ones on which the ban responsibility falls.

I vaguely remember a few other cases like this. I just shrugged them off because they really don't affect me. I have said what I have to say. I was just wondering if this is an issue that should be addressed concretely. As in "these are your responsibilities and privelages." Obviously we want a staff that isn't too restrained by regulation, but I think some more specific and straightforward rules are in order here.

Of course, I am also partially expecting to be told that Mods do have the rights and responsibilities to lock threads and all the other things I mentioned. I am just ignorant of the state of affairs currently.

To be clear on this, the guy asked for the thread to be locked because he had already contacted the mod who banned him. If you feel so strongly about this then I will re-open the thread for y'all.

Do not fret, I do not feel so strongly about this. In fact, I think I said this as well, it was merely an inquiry. Personally I do not think the thread should have been locked. I did mention that it doesn't really matter that much to me. I said what I had to say. It just brought an issue to mind. I wasn't directing this thread at you, either. That was just the only example I had. Sorry if I bothered you.

No it didn't bother me. I'm still trying to figure out all the workings of the system here.

I leave threads open 'till they mostly get out of hand.

I left that thread open last night because I KNOW that they'll be an update sooner or later so instead of making a new thread, that one could of been used still.

And I do agree to your points Dude ;)

The thread-type which i think should be locked:
1) Things that get out of hand
2) Things that cause "blu-raging"
3) ANYTHING about chuck norris
4) Any type of spam thread(BTW, wheres February's useless thread?)
5) Anything which blunty asks if the user may become Member, Moderator, Super Moderator... etc.
6) Anything that attacks an individual in a non-joking way

I think Wally decided not to make February's Useless Thread cause of the random shit that didnt even need to go in a spam thread...

I agree with "The Moment". The guy said he talked to Pwn and that the thread could be locked. What does that mean? To me that means lock the thread. If every reply on this thread you posted was *punches nick in the face*, I can see why the thread would get locked. I understand what you mean though someone else posted something about threads being locked too.

that was a joke made considering the fact that the issue of this thread had been pretty much resolved. If you check out the thread about this guys ^ ban, you will see now that further posting was beneficial to him. This is one example, not the issue i was bringing up. Please re-read the initial post, and work your way down from there.

lol.....

Seriously, Wally if I can make a suggestion..

Why not appoint a couple forum mods. I'm talking forum only, no server responsibilities, etc, no passwords to servers, etc. Forum ONLY!

It'll give some guys something to do besides playing and bitching if ya feel me... :)

i don't want to be a forum mod. I don't want to bitch either. Good suggestion Houston, I hope wally considers it.

i got the idea he did, because im the one who is bitching the most. The idea seemed to me to be give the dude something to do so he stops bitching.

So what's the difference between a forum "mod" and a forum Admin (of which we have two).

One problem of course is giving the "keys" to allow someone to mod the forum, also means they can screw stuff up if they aren't experienced enough to handle the responsibility.

I generally spend more time on the forum than the servers as I can forum at work, but not game

Modding a forum just means making a user class for forum mods and allowing them to do certain things like moving threads, deleting spam and basically keeping and eye on things. No reason to give them special keys, etc at all
