Missing Codec? help needed

*SOLVED* Missing Codec? help needed

okay, so when ever i try to open anything from windows (dont know which year but quite recent) and it ALWAYS comes up with this annoying message and it wont open.. it really frustrates me aven when ive installed the codec which it suggests. i dont think this is a virus because it only happened when i downloaded the 2011 windows package and ive now un-installed it to the previous version i had.. what ever that is.. please help me be able to open it again.. take a look

Yeah i did! it asks me to pay $10 au to get a dodgy codec. it doesnt have anything to do with windows and takes me to a dodgy site.. pwn im not stupid enough to not try pressing "Download required components"

Do you get this when trying to open media such as music or movies?

Try VLC media player if this is the case.

I don't know what windows live essentials is.

+1 to using VLC player.

No codecs to download. Just an all-in-one player. You can substitute this player for Windows Media Player altogether.

Yea, i don't use windows media player at all anymore.

VLC for all video media and river media jukebox for all music.

VLC is a free download, just Google it.

If it takes you to a suspicious site and asks you for money, i think its a virus or some kind of malware. Try running some AV scans and malware scans. I found a thread on another forum that said Stopzillia took care of this problem.

I do have a current version of McAfee Total Protection. Ive run many scans with that, never found a problem but ill download Stopzilla now. Thanks guys for the help by the way

Thanks guys for the help! after a few scans McAfee found the file ; Corrupt-AG!4778DD59A977 got it qaurantined and deleted.. thanks
