Case mod

I use an H50 cpu cooler and decided to mod my case to see if I can get it to run cooler. In stock form the cooler performs very good IMO. Even when OC'ing I get very good temps. My pc idles in the mid 30c zone and hits 42c when gaming. Under stress tests 9prime95 and AMD utility) tems would reach about 47c.

Well I figured I'd try relocating the rad from the H50 to a cooler area, outside the case! I cut a notch in the back panel to allow me to slide the cooler into the same place just on the outside of the case. I also removed the metal grill area to allow better fan flow. I put it back together and all went well. I am using a push/pull set up to get lower temps. Pics attached.

So far I can see the temps have dropped a few degrees. I ran AMD stability test (similar to prime95) and it maintained a steady 38c to 40c at 100% load. It was only a 20 minute test but I can see the benefits as I would normally be about 45c to 47c for the same time. I also hit mid 35c zone when gaming. Overall a decent improvement for butchering my case!

Very nice!
I wish I could take my computer apart to take pictures of it. But no, dad won't let me.

This was my first build. I spent a few months doing research as I know nothing about computers. I built it on paper at least a dozen times before actually doing it. Youtube and Google helped a lot!

Yeah Wally, a bit of carbon fiber textured tape to cover that space as it looked too empty. .99 cent Bling!

Not bad for a 1st timer. ;) Though, I'm actually a 1st timer myself when it comes to building a PC. I've had 5 Dell's the past 6-8 years and I already had an idea on how to build one but never really dove into it 'til I started having issues with my GPU.

I don't think I'll be doing much more to my rig but adding a few more fans that have red LED's on 'em! Who knows though, maybe you'll have a copycat in the future cuz I definitely like that cooler you ahve. ;)

this all means nothing to me.. lol. I really no nothing about computers.. Just a question, what is the point of a gaming rig? is there an advantage?

Gaming rig is basically set up for gaming. As in using parts optimal for games. Fast GPUs, lots of VRAM, and OCed CPUs.

Although seeing many players also need to use the same rig for the rest of their PC stuff, the OS and software is normally the same. I use WinXP, but nothing else. No bullshit applications, excessive drivers, antivirus blah blah blah. XP has also been stripped to the shithouse too. Doesn't look very fancy, but it's only for games.
