if ur not gonna overclock i wouldent bother with the killer and paste, i hear people bash stock coolers all the time but i run a quad also and it idles around 34-38 celcius with the stock cooler, anti wrap is up to you for 7$ id get it even a small amount of anti static can damage hardware Good Luck with the build wally

Wally if you havent ordered anything yet then you should also think about checking a computer store neer you. take your list and get prices from them. You may find that a few of those things can be bought there for about the same price and you wouldnt have to pay for the shipping. The computer store down the street from me had the same price price for the HAF 922 that newegg has but they also had option to upgrade to different colors for the same price as shipping. If i could find a deal like that in alaska then im sure u may be able to get some deals in la.

I concur with Stevo.
The stock coolers are pretty good these days. And you won't need the paste as the coolers have a pad normally built in.
I don't normally use a strap, but I make sure I'm earthed and discharged before I pull boards out of the packaging. Stay away from carpet, and try not to touch pins and copper parts. Handle the boards by the edges.

The Corsair PSUs are good, as are Gigabyte mobos. I've also used Cooler Master cases. One of the ones we have has no-tool drive caddies. They rock. Excellent airflow too.

Further to what Johnny said. If you can buy local all the better. If you have a PSU or something blow up on you, you go back to the store. I had a PSU die on me a few months ago and was hoping I'd got it local not by mail order from interstate. Luckily I bought it local. Saved me postage to send it back.

Here is another cooler i found quickly. It's cheaper and comes with a free thermal compound. It's not the famed Artic Silver, but it should work fine. This cooler also has higher RPM's and moves more air according to the specs. It's one of the highest rated on Newegg.

Newegg.com - XIGMATEK Intel Core i7 compatible Dark Knight-S1283V REV.W with ACK-I5361 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler I7 i5 775 AMD compatible

IMO, the static strap is a waste of money. Just ground yourself and work in a clean, static free environment when you put together your build. You can Google around for tips and what types of clothing materials to void wearing to be safe.

I also don't think you need 6gb of ram. Four would do just fine, unless you really need the six for something, so i could be wrong on that.

I disagree a bit about stock coolers. Yes, they are decent, but you can do a lot better. The stock cooler that came with my AMD worked fine for a few months, then started experiencing unsafe temps when playing demanding games such as Mafia 2. Once i replaced the stock with an aftermarket cooler, my temps dropped 10-15c. A stock cooler I'm sure will keep your temps OK, but a good aftermarket cooler will keep your CPU very cool for a long time to come. Well worth the small investment IMO.

Also not a bad idea to have extra thermal compound around if you need it in case you need to re-seat the cooler or what not.

Here is another Mobo for comparison. I like Gigabyte, i use one myself, that one just seemed to have a lot of one egg reviews which throws me off. It's still a great board, just throwing options out.

I haven't ordered yet but hopefully today I will. I may just end up going to Fry's Electronics today and check out some prices. Though the shipping isn't much. Total shipping I'm paying is $13. 10 bucks for the case and 3 for the rest. IMO, it isn't that bad.

Thanks for the advice. My house is pure tile so I'm not worried about carpet. I may just end up looking for some tips about the clothes though.

Thanks for the tip D, I may just end up getting the additional parts just to be on the safe side. I'll also check out the cooler you mentioned when I get back home.

Thanks for the help fellas!! :)

if your going for a i7 you wanna make sure you get a new mobo well i mean the up todate version of it so you get sata 3 and usb 3. also a sata 3 hard disk will in prove boot up times unless you can find a good solid state hard disk for good money.

most stock coolers are good but the core i7 ones dont seem to work that well hence why i went water cooling and good thermal paste makes a big difference to. the HAF case are very good for air cooling and also have space and holes cut in them for water cooling. i run the older HAF 932 which is a full tower case and its great but my mate has the HAF 922 and thats just as good and takes up less space.

I will say one thing tho when using a mid size case check to make sure the graphics card will fit as some of them are getting big now. i had to grind some off of a freinds graphics card because of the lack of room but he just had a standard cheap case

Sounds like the i7 is the new P4 then, if they run hot. If that's the case GO LARGE. Big fan coolers run quieter too.

Just do the build naked. You'll have no probs

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!

Almost your exact build Wally with a good combo discount. Would still need the GPU and this combo has a HD which it seems you don't need. With your GPU price added in, would save you about 100 bux and you would get the extra 1tb HDD.

Son of a biscuit!!! If only this was posted 8 hours ago LOL

I went to Fry's Electronics earlier today and brought home the following list:

From above list:
Case
MB

Not from that list:
PSU - Cool Master 700W
Memory sticks - Patriot (went with 4gigs total)
Cool Master Cooler

I think that's it. I'll post sone pics tomorrow. I bought them at Fry's because I saved quite a bit. Everything else was cheaper online. Hopefully I can still get the games for free.

The funniest thing.. When I told the salesman what MoBo I wanted he asked "Are you building a Hackintosh?!". Hahahaha. I said, you know it! He went on to say, he recently built one and is loving it, especially because of the price LOL

Blu and D gotta try it! ;)

Wally here are a few pics from my build since we have the same case.

1-pic from behind the MB. Added tabs for zip ties to help manage cables/wires
2-PC assembled off
3-PC On
4-Front view, fan /temp controlers
5-Internal view-Spray painted interior with black epoxy spray paint.

The fan controlers do help since I have 8 fans, LOL!
The LCD shows me rpm on water pump for H50 since there is no power indicator on the unit. Also rpm for a boost fan for my H50 and intake air temp at the radiator, exhaust temp at the front of the case and cpu temps both sides of MB. It gives me peace of mind. As you can see in pic 4 my temps are pretty decent, 81f at the radiator and 79f exhaust, room temp is 76f.

effin sweet, thanks Code!!!

You know, I was pretty darn close to getting the cpu cooler you have!! I didn't want to bother with liquid though so I axed it. Looks cool as hell though!!!

At the moment, all I'm waiting for is for the rest of the parts to get here. I ordered everything else on Sunday night. Ordered the EVGA 470 superclocked GPU from TigerDirect, it comes with Mafia 2 (full game) and Starcraft (trial) for free. Everything else I ordered from NewEgg. The i7 comes with a free game as well (R.U.S.E. - good game by the way!).

TigerDirect shipment is supposed to get here on Friday and NewEgg's stuff is still processing but I imagine it'll get here by Friday or before that since NewEgg is in Los Angeles anyway. :D

So far I've spent just under $1,300. Just about what I wanted to spend anyway. w00t! Can't wait to kick butt in BO's or at least get my ass kicked lol

Wally, just an FYI make sure you do a mock install before full installation. This way you can figure out where some of your cables will run to help avoid clutter. Airflow will be extremely important. There is a tone of room behind the MB tray to hide cables. If you went with a modular PSU even better, less cables to hide. I would also go find the latest drivers for your GPU and check for bios update. Make sure you have zip ties, tape, scissors or knife. If you have temp issues you can add fans easily to that case. Good luck!
