Well it seems that quite a few people are having bad performance in single player mod (lag spikes, slow fps etc) and from what i understand its due to steam and for the single player you can fix it with the work around below but for multiplayer you will have to wait for treyarch to make a patch in order to fix this one. well it seems that steam.exe is causing a lot of problem with the above

Single player work around

In Steam click Steam on the menu bar and select "Go Offline"

Run Black Ops

Bring up the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc for Win7 (or Ctrl + Alt + Del Vista)

Under the Processes tab select 'Steam.exe' and click 'End Process'

I played SP through Pugs steam and had no lag or FPS drop. I was playing on 16x AA, 1920x1080 and high textures. I was getting between 50-60fps. The game did crash on me twice though when i was changing settings and starting it up.

No problems in game however.
