PunkBuster Ban List

Hello everyone,

I'd first like to say, we now have an added system in place. We now have added PunkBuster's ban list to our servers.

What does this mean? Simple. We all know what PunkBuster does. So what better way to stop hackers from coming to our servers? This is the way.

If you're banned from our servers recently, guess what? You're in PunkBuster's ban list. You ask us, "WTF is going on, I didn't do shit." Well, your innocence is definitely going to be hard to prove. Don't blame us. We just needed a better security system for our players and we've done just that; added PunkBuster's very own ban list to ours.

If you think you're innocent, please take it up with PunkBuster. If they lift your ban, we will gladly remove you from the ban list we have. Click on the following link to appeal your ban with PunkBuster: http://www.pbbans.com/globalban.php

Plain and simple, either you hacked at a point by mistake or whatever reason you did, PB has banned you and that means you're banned from ours too.

I would like to add to what WaLLy said by refuting some of the claims i have heard recently. There are 2 basic ways for one to get pb banned. When i say Pb banned, i mean banned from all punk buster servers. This would mean that your name would show up on the list of bans (the cod4 Master Ban Index) that has recently been added to our own set of bans. There are 2 basic ways this can happen.
1. You enter a punkbuster server while a hack is loaded, and pb detects it and bans you.
2. An admin on a server records a demo of you hacking and send it in to punkbuster for evaluation. They will decide whether to add your name to the list or not.
You will NOT be pb banned for breaking server specific rules (no noob tubes, no bunny hopping), regardless of whether or not the server you were banned from runs punk buster. You will NOT be banned from punk buster for simply looking like you are hacking, unless an admin gets very thorough footage and the guys from punkbuster decide you are hacking. This is their job, so if your not hacking, they will almost certainly know. Even then, you can repeal your ban.
If you check the amount of bans that are repealed compared to the amount of standing bans, you will find that the margin of error for punkbuster is extremely small, and I am sure that some of this error can be accounted for by human error when evaluating demos.

So guys, please don't hack on any server. It's not worth it. You really can't argue yourself out of a pb ban.
Punkbuster only bans for hacking, and it does a damn good job. If you are on the list, you were almost without a doubt hacking.

Also, someone recently brought up the issue that these bans could have been given out to one person, who then sold the game to another person, who would then remain pb banned, unrightfully. If this is the case, it would be very easy to get your ban repealed through pbbans.com. It would probably be as simple as proving when you got the game with a receipt or something.

I put a realistic amount of faith in PB. It works in a very dependable way. PB scans for certain files loaded, and that's how you're banned. Of course, there are going to be errors or problems with how the software works, but it is software, and is not affected by human error. Punkbuster doesn't look at the way you play and then make a mistake because it looked like you made a couple crazy wallhacky shots. If you are banned by punkbuster for hacking, it detected some hack shit on your computer. If you have weirdass hardware or software configurations that cause punkbuster to be tricked into thinking you are running a hack, then you can take it up with Evenbalance on the pbbans website and get the problem resolved. In general, however, the software is going to work as intended for the general population of gamers.

If there did happen to be some huge error in punkbuster where tons of people were getting wrongfully banned, there would be a very large outcry of pissed off gamers. I haven't seen any such thing, and I assume when it happens, punkbuster is updated to resolve the issue as best as possible.

I am not saying the software is perfect. I am saying that it is accurate enough to say that a pb ban means that you were hacking, and if you are so sure that you were wrongfully banned, then you can go take it up with the folks from punkbuster. It's that simple. If it banned people let and right for ridiculous reasons and didn't work, people wouldn't use it. People do use it. A lot.

Punkbuster works most of the time. That is a fact. When it doesn't work, the issue can be resolved most of the time. That is also a fact. I am not putting any more faith in the software than to believe that much. This is the last i will be saying on the subject.

when i play cod on PB(if i can even get on the server) i close all programs except for chrome and AIM and Xfire
this makes it so they have absolutely no reason to ban me

i was just thinking that if people wanted to discuss punkbuster we should have a thread for that, but this thread should just remain to inform what the punkbuster ban list is, and how it works.

My problem with PB is that you have to disable the Steam overlay, because I bought this game on Steam.
MY friends get very annoyed when I don't reply, and I have to explain that I can't talk while playing Modern Warfare.

Yeah that may be like the on screen display for MSI Afterburner too, when I get on a PB server with the OSD on it kicks me, but if I turn off the OSD then it doesn't. I can still run Afterburner but not with the OSD on at the same time, sucks so I normally don't play on PB servers ;)
