well more of a rant towards AMD than anything tech.

i really need to do some upgrades to my pc but AMD are taking their sorry ass time to get the R9 300 series cards out and it just so happens that this time round i could really do with a GPU upgrade as soon as possible. i have now been getting by for about 2 years now waiting for the new cards and its now really starting to drag.

i have the list of all the other parts i want but im now waiting for these to come out still. in the mean time i had been thinking about building a small form factor pc such as a itx build or a m-atx build as i also kind of like the idea of having a small pc that you can move about with a fair amount of power but im really not sure a R9 290 is worth buying at this stage

R9 290x isn't really worth it unless you're doing a LOT of high vram intensive work. AMD has had a much better time with Vram usage than Nvidia has according to what I've heard. I'm looking forward to the new 300 series a lot. I'm sitting here with a GTX 770 hoping that I can snag another one for pretty cheap.

the R9 290X isnt worth buying over the R9 290 full stop imo mate, as they are both the same card but the 290X has a little higher clock speeds.

i have also found out that the 300 series of graphics card will contain no re-branded GPU's from the older 200 series, so this could be the reason for delay in the new series coming out. i also see rumors have the 380X to be 20% stronger and the 390X to be 50% stronger than the 980 when it comes out, if thats the case then its worth the wait imo and the 300 series card also no longer use GDDR5 VRAM but instead use HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) which is a first in GPU's, claims are that the HBM is 3 times faster than GDDR5 VRAM. also there is no DVI ports on the 390X card just 3 display ports and one HDMI port, not sure if any of the 300 series card will have DVI ports on them though

The so called leaked photos of the radeon R9 390X WC look pretty good, it looks clean but just hoping the specs of this card and the rest of the line up stack up and is not a complete waste of time waiting
