Serge Prockudin-Gorsky was a pioneer of color photography in Russia in 19th century. There was no colour films that time. There was no films, that time photographer used monochrome photo plates. He decided how to make colour photos with monochrome technology only. He filmed any scene 3 times with red, blue and green monochrome plates. After connecting plates he got colour picture. Enjoy!

I really love those pictures. I really like to see life before cars and advanced technology like we have today.

Sweet pics! Color historical pictures always seem to be more "alive" I guess, than monotonous black and whites of old, they just seem more "real". I also like black and white pictures that are colorized.

I think the connection is that he is President of Russia. And I heard that day that he was voted man of the year again, for the 15th consecutive year, which I thought was funny. The pictures are great.

What's the problem?

For some reason, I haven't found the right website of the photos I mentioned; the artist I know who does amazing pictures like that also recolors PRs old photos and so on but I don't remember his name! Instead, I found this photographer who have collections and several old pictures of Puerto Rico mostly in the 20th century as well as photos of other countries.

PS: I know this is a 19th C thread, I thought I could still share the pics :)
